I was never trying to bash anyone for using newer Ampeg. Having played & A/B new & old ones, that is how I feel on the new ones compared to the old ones. I was a HUGE fan of the Old Ampeg's, so that is my personal feeling on the way the sound quality changed, that is why I no longer play Ampeg. Again, just answering the original posters question. Jimmy most of us have never heard each others playing so never would have thought what I said was a shot at someone else's tone. If you took it that way, I'm sorry but that wasn't my intention at all. I'm not like a lot of people who come on forums to bash other people to make themselves feel better. Music, the gear we play, tone, etc.. is not a competition to me. I look at these forums as a way for us all to gain & share knowledge, opinions, excitement for gear, etc... I would never expect everyone to like all the gear I play because we all look for different things in gear.

If the bassist is using their bass amp to monitor their playing, as you state above, then I would say that it is relevant, not "irrelevant" as stated in the quote above.
Yep. Not only can I get a great sound with a TH350 through a Bag End S15 (the B-15 for the new millennium) but I can get at least good sound out of EVERY cab I've had to use it with so far. Of course reliable, easy to use gear without a bunch of home user bells and whistles is going to be popular with working players. Not the least bit surprising to be seeing it around more.
Nobody with a straight face can say that Ampeg isn't the "Fender" of bass amps... they practically invented them.. But, to be fair, there has been a seismic change in their business model since I was a loyal Ampeg user.. I've had both the SVT and the SVT III Pro, as well as a 410 and 2 210's over the past 10 years. When I was an Ampeg customer, they were all 100% USA made, and generally of a very high quality, using Eminence speakers, etc..
Fast forward to late 2009 when I went to buy a new Solid State combo, the "BA" series as I recall,.. it was made in Asia, I played thru the unit at a Guitar Center and it just didnt' sound as good as the GK or Markbass sitting next to it, much less the Tube-preamp Mesa Walkabout which is what I ended up buying. Whereas the Ampeg I remember would have been hands down the best sounding amp/cab in that A/B comparison.
I understand they've since re-opened higher end manufacturing here in the US with the "Heritage Series" which is welcome news... but sadly, in that interim period, they lost me as a customer and the subsequent $6000+ in sales I spent elsewhere..
Aguilar is of Spanish origin (a typical surname,too) so it is indeed pronounced Aggie-lAhr. Case closed.
shoot, does this mean ampegs arent the best anymore?!?! i think im gonna get an aguilar. whats the best amp they make for metal???

Does it really matter who's playing what, as long as YOU'RE playing what you like?
We can argue gear till the world dies. There's usually no right or wrong answer. Some like Brand Y while some like Brand X. Get over it. I haven't oogled over someone else's gear since I was a teenager and figured out what I liked and what I didn't.
I don't care who plays what. If I like something, I stick with it. Simple as that. I might take a look to see if I can find gear info if I like someone's tone, but that's usually as far as it goes.

I've always pronounced it Ag-U-lar, which seems to be how the cats in the video were pronouncing it. Then again, I've always pronounced Rickenbacker phonetically rather than Ricken-bach-er with the last two syllables like the famous popcorn tycoon as a lot of people seem to do.
And it's awesome that Bass Wizard is on here. Dude's a monster on the green-string Stingray.
As far as caring what national players are playing through, I don't think most of us are that emotionally invested in it. We just think it's cool to see and talk about different gear preferences.

AhHa! That's what I thought. Pressure from others to look good. Thankfully, the Aguilar logo looks nice.
