Broughton Audio Super Thread

Just pounced on a RFE that was on Reverb for 22 minutes lol. Paid a bit above list, but figure I don't have to deal with the F5 release day now.
I did that last week. Just missed out on the last drop, so figured what the heck.
Then also snagged a SV-Pre off the classified here a couple days ago. Can’t wait to get that in!

I hear that pedals not scored on drop day don't ever sound quite as good.

Ah yes, but the rush of finally getting the really illusive one you’ve been chasing for a while?

Forget about it.

There’s a couple that I might have jumped up and shouted “Hell yes!” at strange times and places, after sealing the deal...

The Pi and Studio One for sure.

Hitting the buy button for the lunch boxes was up there too. P-15 was a surprise b-stock drop, and almost gave me a heart attack trying to check out.

Damn... I need to buy another Broughton... Need some of that Filter FX Loop or Archetype in my life!

Anybody got a Dystopia they don’t need? I need a fix!!

Question for any of you in the US who purchased from any of the recent drops. I snagged a Messenger from the most recent drop, which just arrived today. Coincidentally, so did the credit card bill with that transaction on it. Has anyone else been hit by their card company with a foreign transaction fee for making their purchase from Canada? It must be a new thing as I've never had it come up before. Just wondering if others are now paying the same fee to their card companies. Mine was Bank Of America. Maybe I need to start using a different bank. :sour: :rollno:

AFAIK foreign transactions w PayPal always get not great exchange rates, but if you use credit card it’s even worse. Recommend paying w balance or direct from bank to avoid the non sense.

I noticed the latest version of the P-15 has a ground lift. I recalled this from the original P-15 thread:

Pin 1 on the XLR is DC lifted, but audio frequency shunted to ground. This is better than a lift in that it disconnects ground currents from flowing, but allows radio frequencies/hum to be shunted. Also, the output is transformer isolated, so there is no ground reference in the balanced signal. All to say I have no need for a ground lift.

I arrived at this method from Jensen's application notes on transformers, as well as consulting with both Cinemag president David Geren and Radial Senior Engineer Dan Fraser on the matter. They agreed that mine was a sensible solution. A typical ground lift (i.e. disconnect) switch often doesn't fix problems, and more often makes things worse. I've put my preamp through as many scenarios as possible to make sure there isn't a corner case that produces noise (I play direct to the system, so I have to be certain that I won't be giving FOH a noisy signal). So far, so good.

Was wondering what prompted the change...
I’ve had some FOH techs tell me I’m buzzing, but I’m always skeptical it’s actually the P-15.
Sorry if it’s already been addressed.

Well for one he hasn't use cinemag for a while now, and the ground lift has been on a few previous "versions" of the P15, only the very first model didn't have it I think? I know from then an additional output was added and a different output tranny was used, so maybe that has to do with it. I'm sure he would explain if you emailed your question

I gotta say, if I had the money I'd probably buy one anyway. Just 'scuz. (Assuming, of course, I was awake when it dropped next). But I'm not a huge fan of the form factor (not that anyone asked me). There's no supple leather handle, even I would be hard-pressed to mount that sucker on a pedalboard, but there are no rack ears either. It's like be a pedal, a lunchbox, a rackmount, or be nothing, IMHO.
