I have been looking to build a board like this. Substitute a Studio One for the Messenger for my board. How much does the Khan add? Do I really need a $400 used DI? Would want to feed a power amp so I’d like the tube tone in the out. I have a Countryman Type 85 but it doesn’t add anything, just a clean DI.
After playing tonight I kinda forgot to add the Transboost in there. I know I could never let it go. Another that I’d notice immediately if it was off. Haven’t tried other makers versions but this one is quiet with plenty of range and headroom. Also a pleasant natural break up.
PLL has pretty much annoyed me enough to give it a break.
it has the effected tube tone on XLR and the 1/4 line out. The khan is the best tube DI I’ve ever played through and I’ve owned most of the big boys. I done a shootout with our band and sound engineer with it and the Noble and the band loved it. All Of them said the khan was so much better. It is so thick, smooth and still its through the mix so good.

Been lying low as I've been feeling maxxed out on pedals and think I have what I need even if I don't have every thing I want. I want to simplify however I'm not one to sell or flip. I don't think I ever sold a pedal after I sold my Seamoon Funk Machine and Mutron III in the 70s or 80s. Big mistake that....
I even have my BDDI which I haven't used in 2 years and should just sell it - since I have a v1 and a v3 Messenger I can't imagine I'll ever use the Sansamp again.
Having said all that I have been wondering about the SB as a compliment to my current config. Reading "... one of the most sought after Broughton pedals. Known for it's Neve 1073 transistor gain stage, the Studio One creates a warm, clear tone that is immediately noticeable..." sounds compelling but these are words and I don't know what the 1073 does sonically.
Are there any SB samples?
Where are people putting their SBs in your chain?
I even have my BDDI which I haven't used in 2 years and should just sell it - since I have a v1 and a v3 Messenger I can't imagine I'll ever use the Sansamp again.

I can't describe what it does, I know it doesn't get turned off unless running into the P15, everything else is a go. I want to say it gives it a nice vintage sound, but I know that's perceptive so take that for what it's worth. @Col Pruse put up a really nice jam of it and P bass a while back, it sounded very nice. It's almost a drive at high levels but lower down adds a nice warm resonance, while brightening things up. I think the studio guys stumbled on the sound back in the day. All that aside its the most affordable way of getting the neve 1073 sound
Finally got to run the whole board this afternoon, and it sounds amazing! The FTBoost is awesome. Just the right amount of heft and girth, but still punchy as all get out! Love me some Broatones!
I’m running the 60b as all my FX (Filters, Octavers, Synths, etc.) using the Midi Baby to change patches on the fly. I’m digging this board!
Studio Boost has a gain and level so you can adjust output volume. It is much easier to dial in a tone at unity volume vs the boost pedals which will add some or a lot of boostiness.
Yep, it can, but it also can't. Every boost pedal should be like that, gain/level. Solarian is nice like that too
Thanks, looks like I'm more SB than FTB and the 2 knobs approach is key for me.
I don't have a SB to compare it to but the Mustang is absolutely glorious. Into a LBA 2020S it's one of the best tones I've ever found. The harmonics (really variable feedback) control is also really nice to have and pretty unusual (AFAIK) among Neve-ish pedals.
My impression is that it doesn't have a separate circuit per se, but that it's able to reach unusual levels of drive through the transistor. It definitely goes into very distorted territory while still feeling very open (probably due to internal 24v operation).
Down to one? Well, it’s a cool one. I’d like it I bet. (The pedal)
It’s my favorite pedal, no other pedal really works well with it besides an RFE at 18v.
