Brubaker Brute Club, Part 2

There, Kevin should do a line of "Brute Pro's" that hit that price point right between the Brutes and the customs! I doubt if Kevin has the time for that, though, it would be cool and would be perfect for some.

He's deep in working the US built Standard line as we speak. First model will tentatively be a JXB, four and five strings. The trick is keeping the price down and the quality up while building it here in the US. It will ultimately go head to head with his custom basses... minus options. Similar to what some other boutique builders have done, except built here.

That's the plan... hope it works out like we want it to. The four string prototype killed.

Hey sounds good!! Since your kinda close to him (hehe) put in a good word for a six string model.....I'll buy the prototype lol

If his US Standard line is like the Brutes, he might change the entire industry. No more best bass for metal threads!

I don't see a six happening in the Standard series in the near future. Demand for fours and fives greatly outpaces a six.

A US custom six without a lot of options would be a much better choice and you can get that now.

I kinda envy and admire you 6 string players. 4's and 5's are all I can handle and then some. I have had a Dingwall 6 string for 10 years and still can't play the thing worth a damn (and it almost plays itself).

I decided about a month ago that sometime in the next month or two I am gonna put it up for sale. Too nice a bass to just be a wall hanger....needs to be played in public and get some respect!

A US custom six without a lot of options would be a much better choice and you can get that now.

I know, just wishful thinking. Most of the luthiers I've talked to say the same thing....not much demand for sixes.

My first US custom will be fully optioned lol...no point compromising on a custom bass that doesn't have the features I want...might as well save more money.

I started playing six strings my second year into playing bass.....I basically learned how to play on one. The funny thing....give me a four string and I'm almost lost lol.

Sometimes it's just a matter of sticking with it and not picking up another bass until you're comfortable with it. I took my first six out on a gig the day I bought it. Bad move.

Yeah, there's a time frame and target price... and I'm not putting either out here until they're firmed up.


Prototyping is done, hard production costs and times have to be determined. That's where this stands right now.

I know that some people need hard dates. I also know that if unforeseen things happen and those dates aren't met, some people get upset. The bottom line is to get these products out as soon as possible but even more important, get them out right. Some understand this, others not so much. I get it. I tend to be more patient than some, understanding everything that's involved and that good work sometimes takes time.

So I know Kevin would love to have these ready for Winter NAMM but I also know that this phase is out of his direct control. So I guess my answer is as soon as possible.

Hey, I'm just excited about what's going on with Brubaker guitars! I really like my Brute, and will probably buy a US Standard model too (even though it won't be a six string...), and then on to my US Custom Brubaker.

I sometimes get the vibe that some TB members feel "privileged" or something, and that people OWE them exact dates, prices, features, etc, and that's just not possible all the time, especially with smaller shops. PLUS, honestly, no one owes you anything lol! It's different if you've paid money for a something and didn't receive it....but outside of that, patience is a virtue.

I can't wait to see and support whatever is coming down the line with Brubaker. It's always cool taking my Brute somewhere and people not knowing what it is....it's almost like taking my Lil G' to a gig knowing people will underestimate it....it's a wonderful feeling!

This has nothing to do with anything being said right now. I have a KXB-5 in build and already know I want another Custom made Brubaker. I want one like this but with matching wood block Inlays. Never say never.

You clearly misunderstood me. I apologize for any lack of clarity in my post. I was responding to Brad - which is why I quoted him. I wasn't trying to implicate you at all. I was merely stating that I've seen TB members go ham over a product and then get mad when the builder/associates can't or won't give them exact dates etc. I'm sure we've all seen it on TB...

I've done the exact same thing, as Ds1 and a few others here can attest - asking how much something will cost, when it's expected to be shipped, can I get a discount (lol)....so I completely agree with your sentiments. That is exactly what is expected when an interesting or ground breaking product is announced....I dare say it's the type of buzz luthiers and manufactures want.

Anyways, I didn't mean any harm. I generally don't get involved in anything confrontational, ESPECIALLY on the internet. So let's move on, hopefully no harm, no foul.
