Brubaker Brute Club, Part 2

Heys guys here's a quick and dirty of some PUP/Pre Upgrade costs minus install if you don't do the work yourselves. In a nutshell J/MM and 3 band 4 knob pre.

Seymour Duncan............$272
Bart Pacakage (NTMB)....$343.55
Nordy Package................$450.00
Hanson LH3 pkg..............$462.00 (may be able to get it cheaper by dealing direct.
Delano Pups/Glock Pre.....$511

These are ball park figures from BBG.

Or I may just try running a Electro-Harmonix Nano Steel Leather Bass Expander Effect Pedal for $58.00 and see what it does :-)

Great info here philly!!

One thing I'd like to add though, IME/O, if anyone chooses the Delano setup, go for the Delano Sonar 3-band pre with 3-way Mid-switch over the Glockenklang 3-band pre. I had both in my Delano loaded JJX-5 for awhile, and the Delano pre matched far better with the Delano pups. Plus, it's over $50 cheaper then the Glock. --- Just my 2 cents worth . . .

Thanks for the info Philly! I was just doing research on the LH3 system....I think I'm going to replace the preamp first and see how that fairs before I replace the pups. I actually like them, I just wish the preamp had a mid control to dial back the mids when I'm in MM-mode...

Well I had to leave some for you :-) I thought about the all delano as soon as I hit submit.

I was reading in the Lakland thread where some of the older Lakland Bass (Bart package) owners debated about going with the hanson system. All kinds of combos are happening. Some guys are getting the Pups and still using the Bart Pre. Some are doing a complete swap. And there is still the bart pup aguilar OBP3 combo as well.

Don't forget, SGD also makes drop-in Brute pickup upgrades and they are stellar. He can do a complete pair for $200, then pair them with whatever preamp you want. I'd choose these over anything in that list.

Did the issue with his pickups not being delivered get resolved? I wanted to order a set a while back for a different bass, nut then people were saying they weren't getting his pups. I'd love to try them out really.

So tell me, are the electronics in our Brutes made by Bartolini for Brubaker, or is this a proprietary design? I like the pickups, I just wish I had a midrange control. I'm also wary of spending $500 to upgrade when a "pro" line of Brutes may be on the way know.

Who am I kidding, I'll probably snatch the whole Hanson package....I heard Thaddeus Johnson playing his 55-02 on Youtube....I loved it!!

It seems to depend..on what I don't know. I've placed two pickup orders with him and got the first one in 3 months or so (J/MM pickups for my Brute 5). The second order took about a week. Both were waaaaaaaay ahead of schedule. I just placed another order for a set to go in my 5501. I don't know why some orders are delayed but I've never had an issue and obviously would not hesitate to order from him again, especially since there's nothing out there that sounds like his Neo pickups.

First off...I sent you a PM :)

Secondly, I wouldn't think they are made by Bartolini. The ones in mine were G&B or something like that...the same folks that make the Korean MK1 pickups and preamps you see in Ibanez and Lakland 5501/4401. Nothing in common with Bartolini or Hanson.

Oh okay, the SGD's definitely sound nice based on the clips I've heard, and he was quick to respond when I sent him a few pm's in the past.

PM's replied:)

It was just a thought I suppose, it would make sense that the pups/pre are Chinese/Korean since the is manufactured in China.

Like I mentioned before, it would be super cool to have a combo that isn't that common, but you have to pay so much for that exclusivity, and I can't, and am not willing to, right now. For instance, I bet a set of Delano pups with the loaded East J-Retro is vicious, but who has that kind of money in a government shutdown lol??

Well just like anything else we all have our opinions. If you notice I didn't have or make one. I just merely listed some options available. I can remember all too often listening to someone who on TB is a gear head God. And when I heard him play I was like I ain't drinking that Kook Aid. His concept of tone and what he liked was so totally different than mine. So from me concerning an upgrade to a Brute you'll just get options with no opinion. One man likes coffee and another might like tea. Once we start putting our subjective opinions in the mix that leads to debate and to where threads get closed. So I'll only list options and leave my opinion to myself. And that is my opinion :-) What's best to me or for me may not be best for you.

I definitely agree with that...and I don't mind voicing an opinion lol....I just try not to take it too seriously.
