It's a nice looking, very lightweight bag with lots of storage. Pretty sure the one I have isn't leather though. Fits the Brutes and US Brubakers except for my JXB-6 which is not a standard JXB.

I just gotta say how well the brute fits with everything I do, from my original project to everything in between.After NAMM we did a reunion gig in L.A. with a bunch of different players, and once my brute hit the stage it ended up being the main bass for every bassist there. they all wanted to play it and they did. I had so many compliments on how well it played by every other bassist there.Tonight I have a gig with my other cover band and my old guitarist and drummer are in town so I'm going to have them come up and do a Tool set And unfortunately I have to sing them all 46 & 2, Jambi,sober, stinkfist ,lateralus, and aenima. I'm going to have my hands full for sure .

I'm the weird one in this respect , i am currently using circle k balanced strings. these have a taper wound B & E string and are also a stainless & nickel hybrid blend.the set I am really liking is the balanced 136 set and the gauges are as follows
G .041 D.057 A .076 E 102 B 136 . This gives me an even tension of about 38lbs across all the strings so for me I can play faster and dig in better all at the same time and my B string has piano like clarity that is far from what I would call floppy. I would also like to note that these things last!!! i have had one set on for about 4 months now they started to get a little dead and I used the overnight denatured alcohol bath and they are as fresh as brand new again.

It really isn't for me but I have friends try them and just utterly disliked them . ( I don't know why ) my fellow players have called me weird for liking them so much. They have helped me greatly with hand fatigue on my left hand and really I'm at a point I won't use anything else
I used to use DR Black Beauties, but after trying a set of Stainless DR Fat Beams on my KXB, the Brute got the same treatment! I use the standard Med gauge - .045 thru .105 and have used both the .125 and .130 for the B string with no noticeable difference in feel or sound.
Sure the coated Black Beauties lasted longer and were easier on the fingers, but the Fat Beams just have a fuller, more desirable, tone IMO.

It seems that your choice of strings/gauges has only helped to further your enjoyment of the Brubaker. What a shame others would see that as weird. Oh well!

I"m not gigging right now so I still have the orginal strings on my brute and actually they do not sound too bad. When I change strings I'm going with DR High Beams, the set with the .125 B string. I like my strings light and bouncy, and my action very low as I am slapper from way back. I still slap like the old school slappers, Larry Graham, and Louis Johnson, Timmy Allen (ccheck out Mutual Attraction by the group Change). Victor Wootens a bad boy but I'm not into the jiggity jiggity super busy style of slap, I 'm more into the POW!!!! of slap bass. Check out the song called Water by larry Graham. maybe I'm just old
but the newer styles of slap don't groove as hard to me. It's too damn busy and clikety clackety. There has got to be some air in there somewhere. I do however like percolating slap. Check out Lonnie Plaxico on his album short takes. This is as about as modern as I get. However, David Dyson is a bad Boyeeeeee!!!

I use Ken Smith Compressors with tapered B string on my
JJX5(with Bart upgrades). I primarly use flats on my basses but was looking for somthing a little different on the Brute. I am not a big fan of round wounds, so I tried some SIT Silencers along with another set of ground wound strings GHS I believe? but really liked feel and sound of the Compressors, more of the tone I was after with the Brute.

You name the roundwound string, I've had it on my Brute at one point. I got to the point where I just couldn't get a good sound out of it, so I decided I'd buy strings I never would buy to put on it to get something different since I couldn't get what I wanted.
After talking with Jason at Bass Strings Online...where everybody should be buying strings...I went with a set of GHS PressureWounds. HOLY COW! My Brute now has this cool old school vibe, very motownish, I LOVE it! Not something I would try to get on purpose at all, but man it's awesome! I've played nothing but my Brute for the past 2 weeks. I would never put these strings on another one of my basses, but they KILL on my Brute for some reason. They gave it everything it didn't have.
GHS Pressurewounds are very similar to Ken Smith Compressors, GHS makes them for Ken Smith, but the Smiths actually have more options like tapers and different gauges.
Either way, great strings. Not as zingy as rounds, but not dead like flats. Get them at Bass Strings Online.

That is funny, I didn't realize GHS made Ken's strings. I ended up putting the GHS on my fretless and love them.
I agree that everyone should deal with Jason for strings, great place to buy strings.

Okay gang, I'm gonna do something I normally wouldn't do...
Going to get a set of nylon tapewounds and do up the Brute. My MJX-5 currently has a few setiings that I get that Graham Maby-ish tone from the Joe Jackson days. So I'm gonna take it all the way, put on a set of tapewounds.
Gonna ask though, does anyone here have a tapewound preference? What brands?

I have used a couple of different brands in the past La Bella, Fender and Carvin(these are the same as LaBellas, La Bella makes them for Carvin I believe)
I real like the Fenders, they seem to have a little more tension which is what I prefer.
