Kevin is shipping my modified custom pickguard TODAY! As far as I know, I'll have the only Brute with this pickup configuration. I expect many copycats to follow :)

I'm not revealing it yet. It's going to look so bad@$$, I want to do that with the pictures. Seriously though, it's not like it's anything earth shattering...but it's going to look awesome.

Cmon man tell us. Is it MM/MM or are they soaps? Nordy fat stacks? Bartolini? I'm curious. i always thought that a brute modified with the electronica that are in Kevins NBS or KXB series would absolutley kill.

Okay, yeah dual MM humbuckers. SGD Pickups. I photoshopped it to see what it would look like...it looks massive. Really fits the Brute vibe :)

I bought the pickguard already cut. The thing is, if I were to have Kevin make one from scratch, I would just have a single MM at the bridge. But since this one was already cut, the next best thing? Dual monsterous humbuckers! The plan originally was to just mount my Neo Jazzbucker in the MM shell and have it wired like it already is, but I'm about 90% sure I'm just going to put an empty shell at the neck because I never use the neck pickup and I'll have to drill an extra pot hole to use the neck pickup. Well that, or get a stacked bass/treble control. Hmmm......

I almost feel like I'm invading this thread, but I just had a few question regarding Brutes:

I have heard a TON of good buzz about the Brute here on talkbass but have never had the opportunity to hear one in any media/in person, play one, or seen one in any of Maryland's various stores. I think they look gorgeous and I really admire the Brubaker company, so I thought I'd look into getting a Brute.

How does the J/MM configuration sound? Is there anything I can gauge the tone of a Brute to? I'm primarily used to playing MusicMan basses, from what I gather Brubaker employs a more "full" tone?

Last time I talked to The High Studio (I believe they are the ones that have ALL the Brutes on eBay right now) they were going to be starting a program so people could try a bass (purchased online) without actually buying it first... Mainly because Brutes are tough to get into people's hands.

I don't know if they ever figured out how to do it or not, but it might be worth asking!

Okay, latest production of Brutes is complete and here! Kevin is doing the final QC, inspection and set up and they head to dealers this week. Plenty of them. Call your local dealer. If your local shop doesn't have them, tell them to call us and we can set them up for you!

Hey, I have an idea, based on the posts here, how about everyone record a clip of you live or otherwise and post it for everyone to hear? That will give everyone an idea of what a Brute sounds like with your personal setup. Wouldn't it be great to hear a Brute with say Circle K strings, and then compare it to a Brute with EB Slinkys, to a Brute with DR, yada yada?

Lets do it!

Great idea, hoping to order a MJX5 this week!

Youtube phillybass101 Brubaker Brute MJX5 only about 23 secs with the stock strings that come with the bass. recorded on my wif'es cell phone. The camera unfortunately is not as fast as my hands.

I know that is going to sound just sick. I'm actually going to purchase one the 76 MM pre amps from SGD Lutherie to put in my OLP MM5. I heard it nails the pre-EB sound on the OLPs. he also said he could custom make me a 76 MM pickup just like the Nordy MM pickup (OLP) replacement but a little cheaper than what they (Nordys)sell for.

I forgot to add that I'm using an old Trace Elliot GPSM7 300 head with an EV 12 PA cab (my practice amp) so some of the highs are missing. I could have played through my 2x10 with horn or my 2x12 with horn and the tone would have been much better.

Just a note, Kevin Brubaker is doing final QC and setup on the latest production of Brutes. They go to dealers starting tomorrow. If you know someone who wants one (or two) contact your local shop or dealer. If they don't carry them, ask them to call AP International and they will set 'em up.

Kevin says hi to everyone and he is really enjoying our great weather in NJ...

Well during the conversion of my MJX Brute (which was converted from a JJX!) to an MMX Brute, I realized that there is a reason (quite a few of them, actually) that Brutes are not available in an MM double humbucker version.

However, I'm not licked. Luckily, I had decided from the get go that I wanted dual MM humbuckers simply for looks only, as I don't like the sound of neck pickups generally and I only use the bridge pickup on my Brute. Just to fit the empty pickup shell, some routing has to be done. Then, there is no wood to screw the bottom of the pickup into, as the mounting tab is right over the battery box.

If you were to add an actual pickup, you'd really be in deep since the neck screws are right in the way and would have to be sheared off.

But I've been able to get around all of that, and the pickup shell is mounted and the glue (glue?) is drying as we speak!

More to come....

If looks could kill :-) Man I'll bet money that the sound of your axe will be BIG!!!!! Now that's what I'm talking about. Good job.
