Mine is a hair over 9lbs.

As far as I understand it, the basses are mainly made in China and then finished up by Kevin Brubaker. I know Kevin did the fretwork and final neck fitting on mine. The fretwork on mine is on par with my USA Spector...these two basses have the best fretwork I've ever seen.

If you like the sound of Jazz or a Spector, you'll like the sound of a Brute. I have a MJX5 and I love it. I was jamming last night to some old Cameo funk tunes and the tone of the Brute fitted perfectly.

I wonder what a JJX outfitted with a pair of Nordy Big Singles would sound like. or Fat Stacks. Some routing would be required but I'd be willing to bet it would be like a Brute on Steroids. As Malcom Hall once said the sound would be "Brutal."

I ended up slipping some bartolini 59j1 long short set into my JJX5 . and you always think pickup upgrades will make such a different but as it was the JJX5 stock pickups are voiced so close to the bartolini it is almost the same in sound , ever so slightly stronger on the bridge pickup, but otherwise almost the same sound. the bigger advantage in my case was eliminating 60 cycle hum from the stock single coils.the barts don't hum in the slightest.

Seems like somebody tried that but couldn't get them to fit because they were too long or something. They would stick out beyond the pickguard.

Brubaker Brutes are going to be at Bass and Beyond in Rancho Cordova in a week or two. Chris at Bass San Diego doesn't have any in stock yet, but talk to him about them. He is thinking about carrying them.

My first Brute i purchased from a local player who had replaced the stock pickups with Nordy nj5s and MM5.4. It had massive tone and a touch more power. Probably what I liked most was the single coil was as noiseless as you can get from a single coil split pickup.

The Brutes aren't specifically designed for two soapbar style pickups, so it will take some routing and modding.

Just waiting for all my black hardware to come in from Carvin, the bridge came in today, just waiting for the tuners. Then gonna replace the neck pickup with a Bart J style, just can't deal with that 60 cycle noise.
