Frankly, the only way to get a Rob Wasserman or Dave Pomeroy kind of sound is to be Rob Wasserman or Dave Pomeroy. How about using what you have and going after the lowfreqgeek kind of sound, which would be different and maybe even more interesting?

Trust me, I'm well aware that I will never sound like either of those guys, or anyone else. I've been at this nearly 28 years, so I sound like me on fretted electric, fretless electric, or acoustic upright. That said, there are certain sounds that are inherent to the specific kind of instrument. But it doesn't matter much now as I've got my electric upright and do my own thing with it.

Hey Allegro acoustic players, does the sound post ever need to be adjusted seasonally? I bought a BSX allegro used from a bassist in Florida near sea level, and I live at 7,000 feet just west of Denver Colorado. It'll be here in a few days.

Watching Dino's assembly video, the bridge is set on dowel pins through the top. Perhaps the sound post is locked into the body somehow to keep it from falling over?

the fingerboard is moved up or down by adjusting the two screw/knobs on the back. The bridge does not move. the fingerboard will slip occasionally so you will need to keep track of the hight from bridge to string. IMPORTANT <> You have to loosen the strings before adjusting the hight.

Greetings, fellow BSX players. This Allegro was saved from a life under very poor conditions. It was neglected and stowed away in a deep & scary cellar by the former owner. When the bass arrived my house it was obvious that the bass needed urgent surgery. The fingerboard was covered with dents. Screws were missing and the bass needed a heavy clean-up. Two days at www.guitarworks.no made wonders. Fingerboard is leveled and polished, and it is all smiles! Put on a set of Evah Pirazzi weich, and took the bass along to a gig planning to use the bass on one or two songs. Ended up playing it the whole gig. What an easy-played piece of wood! The BSX is pictured along with an older stepbrother :)

I just lowered my action a little bit . It seems like when it goes out of adjustment it usually raises the action.I loosened the strings down about fifth and then turn the knob just a little bit to the left and then you tighten the screw with the hex key To the right . In the past I was loosening the strings until they were flopping around. That is not necessary.

Well...for me...I use searches to find the info I want before asking questions in a mega-thread.

My question (post #284) was about the sound post. There are no posts here addressing the soundpost in the BSX.

No, I do not think SOTW's mfg hierarchical forum concept would work here at TB. Bass topic interests are more organized by technique, strings, styles, amps and pickups. I think the TB moderators have done a great job in organizing the TB forum. Using search on TB is really easy to find keywords across the entire system.

Tony said I didn't need to worry, and indeed they went on and tuned up perfectly.

Dino at BSX recommends that the basses are fitted with 1/2 scale strings, but I guess some 3/4 will work depending on whether they can survive being wound around the string post or not.

I have had my Allegro for 12 years and have only used Spiricore Orchestra Lights. Dino suggested them when I ordered the bass and I have never had a reason to change. For blues gigs it is my go to bass used with an Ampeg B100-r. I recently bought an Ampeg PF500 and two Epifani single 12 cabinets and my back has never been happier, it also sounds killer. I also play a MIJ fretless Precision A/E with a Woods buffer on the piezo and Fender tape wound round wound strings. Between the two I can get any sound I want.

I think speakerdude is saying he hasn't changed his strings? I haven't and its been as long as I've had my Allegro ,over 10 years .
I totally see changing strings for the double bass. It Definitely makes a difference in your sound but with an EUB it doesn't seem like the strings would make that big a difference. Is it a feel thing?

Sorry, I worded my response terribly. I always use Spiricore Orchestra Lights when I change strings which is usually once a year. When I change them I take the year old Spiricores and stick them on an Engelhart that is my beater. I tried silver slaps when I first started playing Rockabilly and realized the BSX is awesome for blues, jazz, etc but that to get the true Rockabilly sound my 48 Kay w/ the two pickup K&K setup along with Silver Slaps was the only way to go. I run a mini stereo volume control mounted on the tailpiece then separate the two pickups at the amps with the bridge piezo going directly into a B-100R and the clicky neck pickup going directly into an SVT100T sitting on an amp stand. The 100R's 15" woofer has that great bottom end and the (2) 8's in the 100T really get the slap. I have a micro switch on the volume control that works as a stage mute and sends the bass pickup to my tuner. I never liked the sound of the K&K pre-amp and the Ampegs take the piezos directly quite well. It works great!

So, I've got a BSX Series 2000 - can't remember in what year I bought it, but had to be early '90s or before. I see mentions of the Allegro and other models but never one of these. Dino, the chief chef there, fixed and modded it a few years back - always did like the sound, tho' I mostly use my string bass these days (jazz, Americana, folk)- anybody have one of these? Still using it?
