Bugera Veyron BV1001M gig review

Yep. Big power has a different FEEL. Its hard to explain until you've been there, but it's hard to go back to a sub 1Kw amp after you're used to it. And '500w is plenty loud for me to hear myself' doesn't really play into the equation.

I am a believer in headroom, having used gobs of power in an amp for years. And I do think one can feel this.
But that said, I do think it depends on the type of music one is playing. I really don't miss the large amp when using my 500w 4.5 lb amp.

But of course rack required so a difference in manageability - although for a long time I used a bare power amp with the pre sitting in a chair.

I do think this is a great way to go for those that don't mind the bulk of the rack - lots and lots of options for pre. Which is now why I prefer the small all in one amp. I had gotten to using a complicated two pre setup - because I could - and sometimes would run into a room where my presets had to be changed - yuk. Does depend on one's pre setup. A simple pre and setup is same.

edit: Oh wait, were you speaking of the Bugera? I was responding to your using a separate IPR power amp in the other thread. I would LOVE to see one of the power amps with the same rating as the Bugera directly compared with real measurements.

My other rig is an old (but great sounding) Peavey TB Raxx preamp into a Crown XLS 1000 Drivecore amp (always bridged - 1100 watts at 4ohms). The Veyron has no problem running the volumes my other rig did. I think it will go louder even. When my drummer says I was too loud, that is saying something. The Veyron did not even seem to be working hard and I was running it into a 4ohm cab.

I'm playing the same club early next month and I think I will pull out the 2x10 and the 1x15 just to see the difference (even though I have played this club with just the 1x15 before) It should be interesting.

The Veyron has no problem running the volumes my other rig did. I think it will go louder even.

So you may be able to imagine what the Veyron can do with my TecAmp L810 @ 4 Ohms.
That cab is rated at 104dB/1W/1m and capable of taking up to 2400W input power which matches the 2000W peak of the Veyron perfectly.

I notice the difference even with low to medium volume playing. The sound is more physical, there's more heft to it. And that heft is controllable.

Often the amp thing (especially on TB) is reduced to volume & 'tone'. But headroom, dynamics and note shaping are part of the overall sound that are most often ignored. How an amp presents the note envelope, how it reacts to dynamics of playing are really just as important.

Just a general question (flamesuit on), does the reliability of this company's products seem to be fairly good, really good, or kind of questionable?
Hoping someone may know based on stats or a lot of experience.

My understanding is that there were problems in the past. I checked this amp out in person before buying and then went to a shop where we could hammer away as loud and as long as we cared to. Not the slightest hint of stress. And the build quality exhibited by the feel of the controls and SQ put me at ease. When I recommend this I do say that the one thing I can't attest to is reliability... haven't had it long enough to speak intelligently on that. Everything else about it hints that it should be fine and in the event that I do encounter an issue I won't leap to a conclusion that it's a trend based solely on that.

So I'm gigging mine with confidence and I've always taken a spare anyway regardless of what I'm using. I'm seriously considering making my spare another Veyron and ditching most of the rest of what I have. That's not about any dissatisfaction with my other amps, they're great. But the Veyron exceeds them for me.

This is a GREAT point and the very one I tried to make in another thread, but, as you say, most often ignored. The amp, cab, & speaker all contribute.

Originally I wanted to use my Veyron as a backup for my Bugera BVV3000 all tube beast.
But I guess I will end up using it on any stage that I would have to schlep the BVV more than some 30 feet far.
Maybe I'll even park the iron horse in the rehearsal space...seems I'm getting old and lazy...

Here we go.......

I've had a relatively small string of rigs that I've been extremely satisfied with. IOW no GAS. But occasionally the bar gets raised and I go with the flow. This is a damned good time to be a bassist.

Second gig with the Veyron last night. This time using my 2x10 and 1x15 cabs instead of the 2x15 Acoustic. I got to the club and got everything setup and got ready to prep my basses. Plug in the first bass, go to tune and PROBLEM! No signal to the tuner! So I un-mute the amp and check the volume. NO SOUND FROM THE AMP! Oh CRAP!

Then I realized that my guitar cable was not plugged all the way in on the front of the amp. Silly me. Once my error was corrected everything worked great. This combination of cabs is slightly brighter than the 2x15 and still produced plenty of sound and again, the amp never seemed like it was working hard at all.

These cabs have tweeters and I usually have the turned off, but someone earlier had asked about hiss from the tweeters, none that I could hear. The amp is very quiet when not being played.

Now I need to get a workshop so I can build a nice high powered, light weight 2x12 to make this rig even easier to move.

Just received the head, and played it for a few min. Sounds real clean. Compressor works. I don't tend to compress much, but if you do, this one is usable. More later, as I'm headed out to work.
