Bugera Veyron Now Available

Would you have it on the floor or on a table then? I'm in between bands currently, but in the last one we played gigs at venues that mostly had no form of stage, so the cab would be level with people's feet.

Rule of thumb, as told to me by Bill Fitzmaurice, is that you can raise a cab up to 24" without losing low end. The reason why people think that they are losing the low end is because the mids are closer to your ears, and you are hearing them better than when the cab was on the floor, blowing at the backs of your knees. I routinely raise my cabs off the floor to hear them better, and I don't hear a loss of low end. However, I play a 4 string, and don't need a massive bottom in my gig situation.

I am sure Bugera did measure it against other amps. They do freely buy, measure, and study other amps. It only makes sense they actually compare their products against the market competition.

Which makes me sure they didn't just pull the "2000w" out of free air.

There's a lot of disbelief. Even just a few years ago many didn't believe mini amps could ever deliver like they actually do now.

We'll see.

    @dieseldalziel Dear Gavin, we use peak power ratings for our products as we feel it's a better indicator. 2k W is peak for the VEYRONs!

I've noticed a loss in low end just by tilting a cab back. So decoupling is a real thing IME.
 
While I was out I decided to see if a local store had any of the Veyrons in. By a strange coincidence they had just brought out the first one received as I arrived. They had a Mosfet. Not being a big fan of tubes that was fine by me.

First impression, the amp looks and feels like a high quality piece. It's lightweight, the fan is quiet, the features are useful IMO, nothing to not like so far. I liked the large illuminated Master volume control and the illuminated secondary buttons, very classy looking. The internal LEDs to give a tube like glow didn't bother me, they weren't obnoxious. The variable compressor worked and I doubt I'll ever use it again beyond demoing that it works. It didn't take any tweaking to get a very good output with either bass. I tested it with two non-Bugera cabs that I'm familiar with that open up with more power and this amp drove them easily. I tested it with a passive Brubaker JXB-5 Standard and PRS Gary Grainger 5. Both basses sounded like they sound through a nice rig. It easily got louder than I could need on a gig IMO. So the wattage thing, whatever it is, is not an issue for me. I don't need to know an exact wattage figure anyway, I need to know what the minimum impedance is (and don't really need that other than to know it can handle 4 ohms. That's all I care about) and how well my basses are amplified by it tonally and dynamically and the wattage spec doesn't address either of those.

I thought hard about buying it on the spot, the price is great but the amps I used don't really need to be replaced. Then I thought about the Markbass that tags along as a spare. If I sell that I could get into this as a brand new spare for very little money. So that's probably what I'll do soon.

I don't have any Behringer baggage, reliability was mentioned at the store and the jury's out on that. So far this looks like one of the best deals in amplification out there right now. It seems like it has at least as much power as my Shuttle 9.0 at 4 ohms. And that's enough to get me the headroom I need.

That isn't a loss of low end, that's an increase in midrange. Tilting won't affect low end because it has no direction. Midrange does and is the thing that changes. Scooping mids gives the impression of extra lows to the untrained ear/brain, that's how the ultra lo switch on Ampegs works.

I still disagree. I've heard a difference raising a cab off the floor an inch or two. I don't believe the low end remains the same regardless of placement.

I don't scoop mids so I don't know what that has to do with this.

Your ears being off axis to the speaker reduces mids, hence tilting or raising the cab so you are closer to the polar axis of the speaker means you can hear more mids, thus perceive the sound as less bassy. This is explained in that thing you linked under 'understanding sound dispersion'.

My ears weren't off axis with the cab I'm talking about.

Note that coupling due to boundaries is directly related to wavelength (which is directly related to frequency), a couple inches is WAY to the right of the decimal point below even a couple hundred Hz.

IME, the low end is not changing, but the midrange, which is much more directional, can change as the cabinet is tilted back masking what appears to be a reduction in low end with by an increase in midrange.

The math, the engineering and the understanding of boundary principles are well understood and used all the time in the pro audio and installed world. There is also a lot of bad information and perpetuation of urban myths about this on the internet. It's always a good idea to verify that the information you are relying on is accurate and fact based.
