Bugera Veyron Now Available

Back to the original OP's announcement, the Bugera Veyron is now shipping.
I received one through the mail from New Jersey and did an initial inspection. Without playing it, my impressions on the build:

The unit is about 10" x 10" x 3." It has large 1/2" tall rubber feet about 1 1/2" inches in diameter on the bottom. Very stable.
The case is dark brushed metal. Very classic high end looking. There are grills in the front and side for air flow. Very classy design and execution.
The Veyron has a bit of weight to it. About 6.6 pounds. I like that. There is a very solid handle integrated right into the side of the amp, and it's padded with a nice rubber cushion.
Every part is tightly fit. There are no unplanned spaces or gaps anywhere.
The knobs move tightly, which I like. The large knob is very solid.
My impression to look at it, this unit would stand head to head in build quality and design to anything triple its price.

I'll give an update on the sound when I use it this weekend. :)

Look forward to your review!
M or T? The T's are already sold out at many places.

So I stopped back by the store, brought along one of my basses. Spent a couple of minutes and heard enough to make a decision. Next stop... the Brubaker Shop to really crank this up with Kevin's Boom Bass Cabinets Tank 1215.

As I was setting it up a friend called who was trying the tube version and he wasn't blown away buy it. I think he said the output was less than he needed which surprised me based one what I'd already experienced with the Mosfet. Oh well. Back to my head...

Holy crap! (And I don't use the term lightly).

Whatever the wattage is it far exceeds what I'll ever need for gigging. I tried it with one of my KXB-6's which has a very hot output. Ran the bass wide open into the amp, set the gain around 9 o'clock, clip light came on at the heaviest peaks. No hint of stress reproducing ridiculous volume levels from top to bottom on the six. Tried it with the pad kicked in, increased the gain, bumped the Master, still massive output.

Then Kevin plugged in a heavily modded Brute with Aguilar electronics and cranked it up even farther. Got more output than we ever tested for with the Crown Drivecore XLS1500/Mike Pope MPP1 rack setup (1500w @ 4 ohms). Still no hint that it was working hard.

The tone with everything set flat is full, clear (very nice highs) and hits hard at volume. The tone controls are very effective and I don't need them. The five Mid center frequencies should please most tweakers. Same with the compressor. So far nothing negative about the amp strikes me. And with the three year warranty and my penchant for taking spares I'll take this out with confidence. So far so good. More than likely not so good for their competition.
:)

BTW I have no commercial interest in the amp. Behringer wouldn't know me from a ham sandwich. I did own a four channel mixer several years ago. I do like very cool gear and this just became my go to head until further notice.

Sounds like that suspected 400 or 500 watts RMS has got some serious grunt to it! :D

Yeah, I think it's a tad more than that.
:D

This puppy hits so clean and hard and handles peaks effortlessly. Basically what I want in a rig. The trick IMO will be in having a cab or cabs that can handle it. Been using it here most of the day, sounds great at lower volumes too. I'm genuinely curious as to how they accomplished this at their target price.

I thought that Peavey would get there first with their new micros, but I'm glad someone is there. That's why I'm playing with the big IPRs...It's also refreshing that B* has stepped their game up a bit on the build quality, etc. no matter how much they've borrowed some of the exterior appointments.

Kind words sir. Also what I like about this line is it will offer a very high quality product with a 3 year warranty to the younger guys who are working hard to get their first pro amp. Will they stay with it? I don't know. But at least they'll have a fighting chance when they go in for the big audition. :)

I was looking forward to the Minimega too.

This definitely resembles a Genz Benz to me in some aspects like the DI layout on the rear and the brushed aluminum.

From what people have suggested, the layout/ID is 'reminiscent' of GB's previous works while the actual amp design is closer to the Ampeg offerings. I'm side stepping the whole IP side of the discussion. ;)

Me too. Definitely not passing judgement. I am interested to know what amp design or module is being used in this. Whatever it is, it works. Just for general info purposes. At this point if it turned out to be 250w I wouldn't care. It would be the nastiest 250w I've ever experienced.
;)

I would worry about 'younger guys' be they in age or just experience with this amp or others like it. Why? Because this is the kind of power that destroys speakers. We've already seen that with lesser powered amps (say those in the 500w-800w range)...and with a low pricepoint, high portability meeting high wattage I think you're going to see a pile of cabinets with their voicecoils vomited out their dustcaps when guys who haven't handled this kind of thing get their hands on it.

When I started using my IPR-3000, I had guys who designed cabs and amps as well as long time pro-sound people advise me against it. And that level of caution should be observed by most. I haven't had problems, but I'm both very careful and have a bit more experience than some.

IIRC they've rolled their own on this, so I don't believe it's any of the 'standards' but they may have done some time 'exploring' some of the newer 1000w beef that has been on the table for a while.

Ummmmm yeah, I've burned a few voicecoils in my career..... :dead:

Cool. 1,000w seems reasonable for what I'm hearing. Maybe more. I was also interested in the Trickfish with the Pope preamp. Not so much anymore.

Thanks for the help.

So Brad, this head has bumped the Kustom out of the top spot?

Easily. And my Shuttle 9.0 so far. It's nipping at my rack setup.

They're all still as cool as they were yesterday for me. But this thing seems to have set a new bar for me. That doesn't happen very often. I'm not easily impressed. Most new gear underwhelms me. Days like today are just plain fun.

I'm hoping it's as solid of a performer as it seems.
