I wouldn't say that a single letter doesn't say much. Many of the major "brands" we see around us capitalise on that (no joke intended). Stock fonts will dilute how many logos present themselves, so something hand drawn or left of centre will stick better. I saw a great logo in an inksplat once, although not a Rorschach test thankfully.

Logos or marks are an awkward distillation of identity squeezed into a dense format which is devoid of detail yet specific enough to be unique. I still haven't found one that I would be happy releasing my own work under which is painful since I would like to unify my own work also.
You could quite happily develop that existing logo mark. Draw it out many times in different ways, exaggerating aspects you can see "in" each generation and see where it takes you. It is even possible to mutate printouts of stock fonts to instill your own hand in there.
Right. Red wine has spoken its bit. The Bourne Legacy was rubbish. Hopefully this post will be more positive than that waste of time.
