Burberry basses - they're real, now what?

I've been trying to make this happen for more than a year, as some of you know, and now it's real. It's so real I've got two of them and have already used one on a gig. There will be more, too, as I already have a buyer for at least one, which means I'll have to make a third.

So, here they are - some cheap basses that I glued fabric from a Burberry shirt and a Burberry jacket to. Matching headstocks and original tags, of course. I don't want these to look like some Peavey bass with a Burberry finish - I want them to look like Burberry basses.

So, since I'm going to do a third one using the lighter-colored fabric, what bass should I use as the next victim? Nothing too expensive because I can't do this neatly enough to justify doing it to anything too nice.

In Eastern Europe it really looks much more girly than chavvy. You can't go outside in the winter without seeing at least one girl in a fake Burberry scarf.

I could do another Peavey, sure. That Milestone looks nice with the big plaid pattern across its long slim horn, I wouldn't mind doing the same exact thing only slightly neater. A Thunderbird would have the advantage of having more square edges and cheap Epi ones aren't too hard to find. Might have to do some Photoshopping there.

I wouldn't mind finding a cheap deal on something with binding which would really make the edges much easier, like an Ibanez SRX or a Cort T-34 or something of that sort. It's not too likely but I'll keep an eye out.

I mean, sure, it's all one big joke, but it's joke whose execution I'm taking waaaaaaaaaaaay too seriously.

I think they are pretty killer looking. I would never rock one, as they are way too "grunge" or "hipster" for me, depending on what decade you think owns plaid.

And yeah, I would love to see something with binding, I am a Fender guy so I think an aerodyne would like awesome.

Was this all inspired by Tom Green painting his parents house plaid? That always inspired me to paint my parents house plaid... I don't have the budget for it though.

Ha, no. It was inspired by a visit to a Chinese market full of fakes in 2011, and realizing they had fakes of things that don't even exist in real versions. There I suddenly thought that showing up for a gig with my DB in a giant fake Louis Vuitton DB bag would be awesome. I then thought about an LV monogram finished bass guitar. That idea eventually morphed into gluing real Burberry fabric to cheap basses, because of the various luxury fashion brand patterns the Burberry plaid will be recognizable from the greatest distance in a dimly lit bar.

An Aerodyne would look absolutely awesome with the square plaid across that curvy top, but it's too nice. I'd feel guilty modifying one unless I do a few more of these basses and get a whole a lot better at doing perfectly shiny finishes. So that's in the "maybe someday" category...

Maybe you would know because his shirt says Rollers.... or because they were the lads in plaid or something like that back in the day weren't they?

The only reason I know is because the one guy left is touring the Bay City Rollers name and they were recently in my town. They had some fun songs, mainly Saturday Night.
