I was going to say I can't tell you what to spend your $10K on, because that's how the left side of my brain is wired, but then the absurdist in the right side of my brain had a different idea.

Spend about $3K or $4K making a one of a kind parts bass with a machined and polished clear plastic (acrylic or polycarbonate/Lexan) hollow or chambered body then stuff what's left of your $10K, in cash money, inside the body. Then watch the value of your parts bass immediately depreciate--because parts bass--along with the remainder of your cash inside because inflation.

You sound pretty flush with basses but I know there is always room for more. That bound and blocked strat is a fantastic choice. But as a bass player maybe a fantastic synth that can do bass plus a whole lot more like the Moog One 16 Voice polyphonic Analog Synth for $8999. I'm up the road in Waco and may be taking an assignment in Austin in the near future. If you buy the Moog can I come play it once? lol

Now that I am old and pretty comfortable from a material point of view, I find that memorable experiences >> more stuff. Take a trip, fly first class and stay in a nice hotel. Go someplace you've always wanted to visit. Make it music themed if you like. Or not.

I'll bet that years from now you'll remember that trip more than you would whatever instrument you bought.

I have basses and amps and guitars and P and J and fretless and fretted and ABG and 4 and 5 string and semi hollow and active and passive. And a ton of pedals.
I have no debt aside from mortgage and that’s almost finished too. Kids college is covered and thanks to 1 academic and 1 athletic scholarship I didn’t even use what we saved for education. My car is paid for. Point is, don’t come back with savings or investment advice or you’ll receive a C-.

In September I’m getting $10,000 that’s not a commission, not a paycheck or any part of my salary. Nice problem to have, sure. And my wife doesn’t even like “stuff” let alone bass stuff. I don’t need to spend it all but I have been thinking it would be fun to get a bass that I don’t have or necessarily need but something kinda cool.

So hit me up. What should I get for No Reason?

And if y’all don’t give me any great ideas I’ll just get a Kenny Wayne Shepherd Stratocaster, bound and blocked, looks like a Jazz bass sort of. So technically it’s up to you to maintain the bass/guitar universal balance.

I'd probably get something like an Olinto P bass and buy the wife something nice, shiny and expensive with what's left.
