Cab Combination Question

I feel like trying gear is almost impossible these days. The music stores never have anything that I want to play and if they do it's so hard to distinguish if I like it or not in those conditions.

Most local and online music stores have a 30 day return policy - just order whatever you want to tryout and if you don’t like it return it. This way you get to tryout the equipment with your band and etc. My local music stores let me take home whatever I want to test drive.

Hey,
I'm looking to improve my sound in the band setting. I play through a GK 700rbii which I'm probably going to be upgrading to a GK Fusion 550 or 1050. I currently run through an Avatar B410 neo cab and was contemplating on getting a new cab. I was thinking that I could either get a "better" 4x10 cab to replace my avatar or just add a single 15" cabinet. I play 5 string basses and thought a 15" might help bring that low B through nicely. What do you all suggest? Is it okay to pair up a 4x10 with a 15"? My sound is pretty good as it is but I definitely see room for improvement.

Thanks in advance!

If your present Avatar 410 is 8 ohms and you like it's sound, I'd suggest adding another 8 ohm 410.
A second 410 cabinet will be just as much a hassel to move as a additional 115 cabinet would be.
If your present 410 is 8 ohms, your only getting roughfully a little over half the power output from your GK 700 head.
A second 8 ohm 410 will be a 4 ohm load and give you your full 480 watts from the 700 plus the additional "speakerage"
will give you a fuller low-end and more volume.

Well, a few "truths" and "facts" that Bill and shoot-r left out are that although Eminence makes drivers for most major cab manufacturers, they also typically make those drivers to the specs and design parameters those companies give them - most of which are also kept confidential... So, it isn't actually true that Avatar uses the same exact drivers as Bergantino, Mesa, Ampeg, SWR, Eden, etc...

Also, those companies tend to have better constructed cabs, and tend to use higher quality parts throughout: crossovers and horns, for instance...

- georgestrings

As was mentioned in earlier posts in this thread about Avatar's 10" speaker loaded cabinets using Eminence's top of the line 2510 speakers as does the top name-brand manufacturers 10" speaker loaded cabinets...
Avatar uses Eminence's top of the line, cast frame, neo, 2510 speakers with a custom x-max specifically built for Avatar's cabinet design/tuning......Aguilar, Berg, Epi, (Mesa? Looks like it...), ect., ect., also use Eminence's top of the line, cast frame, neo, 2510 speakers with a custom x-max specifically built for their cabinet design/tuning. (Mesa calls it their "Custom Mesa Powerhouse Speakers"...custom as in they have a custom x-max.)
The Foster horn used in Avatars is the same as found in Aguilar, Ampeg, Eden, Fender, SWR, ect., ect.
I've never found who builds Avatar's cross-overs...but I'd be willin' to bet $100.00 of your money...:)...those same type of cross-overs are also found in many of the name-brand manufacturer's cabinets.
As was mentioned in ealier posts, some cabs, (a Berg 210 was the example used), use a different horn/x-over for sweeter/smoother highs, but to get those different highs comes at a substantial, and IMHO, a ridiculous added cost.
I've not heard or played through a Avatar 212 or 410 cabinet so I can't speaker for those cabinets quality of construction, but I can speak for Avatar's 210 cabinets quality of construction.
It's right up there with cabinets costing twice or more as much...
