Cab Decision: 410 & 210 or 410 & 115

From a basic mechanical standpoint, with 2 8ohm cabs you're expecting a single 15 to keep up with 4 10" speakers. That's not a great idea. With a 410, each speaker sees a quarter of the wattage, while that single 15 will have to handle the SAME amount of power with a single voice coil. The displacement of the 410 is also greater, meaning it will be louder with the same wattage, burying the fact that your single 15 will be struggling to keep up and probably also reaching its excursion limit and therefore being in danger of destruction.

Same goes for a 8ohm 210 with an 8ohm 410.

It will. It actually will maximize your volume potential for that given 410. Also, with matching cabs/speakers you have the added benefit of knowing that all those drivers will happily work together and not create strange tonal problems with your sound. Another thing to keep in mind is that 410 cabs often go lower than 15's, so you actually may end up with a rig that's LOUDER and deeper as well as sounding better out in the room.

My 2 cents (some will not agree):
What is your budget, and what kind of vehicle are you schlepping with?
Two 4x10s is a whole lotta heavy gear, and if you buy cheap 4x10s, they won't sound as good OR as loud as a more expensive 2x10 or 2x12.
I run two high-quality 2x10s and have never had any trouble filling any room with sound. True, I bought really, really good cabs - they were about $750 each - but lord they sound great AND I can put them in the back seat of a car. I am 100% confident that if someone side-by-sided them with a less expensive 4x10 or even two 4x10s, they'd prefer my rig.
That all said, if I wanted a BIG ROCK RIG, I'd look at a Berg 4x12 cab or two 2x12's. I see these for sale used now and again. Great cabs, reasonably light. You then have to get a good head with some real headroom to it.

So Shaun, what's your budget? And why are you married to the idea of the amp & cab coming from the same company? I've always had better luck mixing and matching.

2 cabs:
Sufficient wattage.
Small $$ for big rig.
Get the best head you can.
Get a single high quality cab.
Get a second cab later.
There is a pair of 2x12 1000 watt avatars for sale in the classifieds.
They also happen to be relatively local (berkely)
There is a lot of good stuff in the classifieds right now... craigslist in the bay area has some good stuff too...

I play about a hundred gigs a year with a 2X10 (SWR goliath jr ) on top of a 1X15 (SWR son of bertha) and enjoy ever once of tone I get. They seem to really work well together. If I was to buy new cabs today- it would be the same configuration ( but Tecamp brand). Like it was mentioned above- choose 8ohm cabs.
