I suck, but nobody really notices
What up y'all?

I'm improving my Ashdown 15 right now, so I thought I'd let you in on it.

First: slapped some wheels on it. Why? Because it's over 50lbs, and I like moving things easily. Why else? Because they match the speaker.

Dope, right?

Now, I've noticed a little rattling (not anything excessive, but it's there), and my head seems to also be vibrating much more than anything I'm used to. So, I'm now going to dampen my box. Took the speaker out, and...yeah, this thing needs some love.

Wow! I can understand not bracing the thing, to try and save weight (that seems to be a major selling point nowadays. Which is garbage. There are so many more ways to move your gear than simply carrying it), but no sound dampening either? My God! None! Like, what the heck is that 3/8 cotton swab even doing there? Why even waste the money for that?

Well, that just solidifys my opinion on ampeg. Now that I see what others are doing. Anyway... let's get at it.

She's tighter, and more mid forward now. Still rattling the walls, but much clearer. With a little bit of time, and a little bit of money. I think I knocked a lead off my tweeter though, cause I can't hear it anymore. All in all though, much better. Now, I can clearly hear the logo plate rattling on the grill. Hahaha. I'll stick a little peice of that stuff to it. Trim it down and screw it back on.

The only thing "dope" is you looking right at the bracing and not recognizing that it IS braced. That's plenty of bracing given the material the cabinet is made from. If the brace had been a snake it would have bitten you right in the face!

Too bad you broke the tweeter, rule number one is not to make things more broken after you work on something than it was before you worked on it.

I didn't break it.

I stopped the rattle, I killed the "wolliness" from the cab walls resonating, and evened out the sound curve. I also made the top of the cab not vibrate...almost at all. I hit the cab before, and it sounded like a wooden drum. I hit it now, and it sounds like a brick. Maybe you should try to add a little dash of Nuggles in your own life. You'll either fail...like me, or win ten fold...like me.

Yeah, I went overboard. I had the material. But, it did what I wanted regardless.

Kinda hard to fight the truth.

And, there is no bracing. There is not a thing inside to stop the cab walls from flexing in and out. Yes, it's 5/8" ply. It flexes and resonates.

Might just stop all the complaints of your amps almost falling off your cabs. A little dampening up top would do them some good. But, you already know that. You just don’t do it.

you didn’t “brake it” (break it), you broke it when your tweeter stopped working?

There’s no bracing? Once again, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, but to use your own words… you already knew that. So does everyone else reading it. The brace is sitting exposed and obvious in your original picture.

Do what you want to your cabinet, but don’t go around claiming things about other cabinets that are factually and obviously wrong hand your own pictures prove it.

Also, for accuracy, our cabinets are in fact braced (quite thoroughly) with corner, edge and truss style bracing as shown on the attached image/video. Please don’t insinuate otherwise.

Your cabs look great. Masterful if you would. It looks nothing like mine.

I'm sure you're talking about the one little strip that goes across the port. It obviously doesn't help anything.

If you don't like things I say, or things I decide to do horse, there's an ignore button. Feel free to click it, and move on.

And again, I didn't break anything. I pulled the positive lead off when I did the side. I put it back on.

Edit: it did read "shut your mouth," before, "and move on"

It was uncalled for. Sorry. I really don't mean any harm to you man. I appreciate a lot of your time on here. But, I also don't like your demeaning disposition on everything. You insult, then blast back like you have no idea why that person got angry. My wife does that. Insults people, then plays victim. You do it all the time.

Not that that's what happened here, but it happens quite frequently. I'm tired of reading it.

If I don't ask you for help horse, just shake your head and continue on. With that said, if I ask you for help horse, feel free to disregard me.

Wow, what a completely disrespectful and condescending tirade against the single most knowledgeable person on this forum. But, as you already said, you know better.

Horse had said nothing untoward, in fact, I think it was good hearted, a tinge of sarcasm about the "first rule". That cab is braced.

So.... you talk about things being more mid forward.... those blue wheels are now separating your cab from the floor.
I put the wheels on last week dude. They're just blue now.

Yeah, I got mad. My bad.

But this is why we put the 4x10 on top of one, no? :) I'd not use the 1x15 on its own, but the 4x10, placed where boundary effect can help it, is great on its own. To be fair, my 1x15 has no horn, and I'd already got the 4x10 first..

I like the wheels. I hope they're a bit yielding though, like the 'kryptonic' polyurethane wheels made for skateboards, otherwise you might get some unwanted and interesting effects on your tone.

Yeah, they are. Smooth and soft. Not hard plastic. I got the 15 because I wanted a speaker that was a single use cab. One that would out perform the single 12 I was using. Because, while my 12 was great, I was slightly volume limited. Having the bigger speaker seemed like the way to go. I have big things for big things. I wanted a solid, small, single cab solution good for most everything. It was just lacking in a few ways. Since I got it cheap, I figured doing a little work would be a great little project.
