I suppose i could load two IR’s i really like into protools, pre mix and account for any phase issue and the export as a sing WAV file or am i dumb? Haha

I've done that with 2 different IRs before and it worked for me. I made sure to start with the same sample rate and bit depth, checked the phase, and lowered the level so the file I bounced was the same dB as the the ones I started with.

how do i check the bit depth and sample rate? Sorry very new to all this! Safe to assume that everything should match if its from the same pack? (Ie redwirez)

Redwirez, for example, is organized that way.

Most should specify.

I think the RW Bass Bigbox for $9.99 is a classic no brainer, especially if you're new!

Lots to experiment with.

And the Overloud SuperCabinet is my current fave IR loader. You can combine up to 4 in one instance and EXPORT!

i have the redwirez Mixir which i read can do a similar thing. Would you suggest the overload instead?

For recording, do you guys usually record the IR signal, and then also record the dry DI signal and then blend them in the DAW in post? The reason I am asking is that I have an IR loader pedal and some good IR's that I think sound great, and I enjoy using the IR signal for headphone monitoring while I record (to get the amp feel). but I realized that the IR signal that I am recording rolls off a lot of the bottom end (usually slope starting with 80hz). And wondering if I really also need to be recording the raw DI signal from my bass at the same time, so some of that bottom end (40hz etc) can be mixed back in. I think this is a standard practice when recording a mic'd cab, so it seems like it would be appropriate when recording the IR signal as well. I wouldn't want a producer to miss out and ask for another bass track later if the IR track I give them doesn't have enough low end.
Just trying to see if anyone else does this as well.

It's generally better to apply IRs in DAW in case you change your mind, or need to adjust to the mix better. Not to mention that computer interfaces are generally better than trodding pedal menus. Really, the earlier you capture your signal, the more options you have later on. Take it straight out of the instrument and you can use a re-amp box to change every aspect of your signal path after the fact. Of course, not having the option to change your mind can be helpful in terms of decision-making. Limitations breed creativity is the common saying. The proper takeaway is that if you can accept things that you won't or can't change, you can focus on the fewer things that you can change and you can find new ways to get around the limitations that are placed.

Yes, but the DI wins out in the end. With added IR, and other post processing in the DAW. So it can be tweaked in the Mix.

If you try to mix the DAW and IR in the DAW the look around for some Phase correction plugins. They handle the phase at many frequencies to avoid combing in post. Even some newbie FOH engineers get this wrong when they try to merge DI and Mic at the Bass players insistence. One or the other avoids phase issues.
 
I've got a couple of homemade IRs from my B-18 that I've gotten a lot of mileage out of, so I thought I'd spread the love and share them here for anyone else who may be interested.

[I don't know if this has been done before, so forgive me if I'm re-hashing an old concept.]

This is not an IR of a mic on the B-18 cab. It is, rather, an IR of the amp itself, including EQ and power stage. I accomplished this using the method of tapping a speaker-level DI between the Speaker Out on the amp and the cabinet. This is how I've been recording my direct tone recently, and it's as close as I've ever gotten to the 'sound in my head'. Power tubes and hefty output transformers all in the signal path.

Routing is as follows: 60-second slow sweep impulse (generated with Reaper's ReaVerb plugin) coming out of my Presonus Quantum interface. Into input 2 of my B-18N. Out of the Speaker Out, into a Rupert Neve DI with 'speaker' switch engaged (and passing signal through to the cab, which was not recorded / mic'd and simply connected for load). RNDI into a Grace m101 preamp, straight back to the A/D on my interface. Deconvoluted with ReaVerb.

There are two files - "flat" is with the tone controls at noon, "EQ" is with the bass tone control at full boost and the treble remaining at noon, the way I usually run it.

I hope a few of you may find these useful in some way! I'd love to hear feedback on my process if anyone has other ideas.

@Verticos - thanks, I have downloaded the IR's and will try them out.
However, I do not use my IR's in a DAW for recording, but for headphone playing.
MY IR loader lets me add EQ to whatever IR, therefore I can add a HPF and LPF to simultate a cab.
I'll report back.
 
Does anyone have an IR of a Hartke 1x15 they would be willing to share? I’m going through a bit of a Sheehan phase and I’d like to see how close I can get with my Atomic Bass Box, among other toys. Thanks!
