Cab sims?

Obviously heard about the DSM omni and forthcoming mini...also heard about the digitech cabdryvr and the two notes torpedo CAB...are there other simulators out there? What are the great ones w a set it and forget it? The versatile ones?

These days I tend to play direct more and more and want a solution for the dry and somewhat stale direct sound. Really want that lush sound I get from my amp at home to be everywhere...when I go direct, when I play over the internet, when I record direct to DAW.

Honestly, I use a Broughton high/low pass filter and call it good.

The Mooer Radar is pretty good - it has built in IR's that sound pretty good and you can load your own as well. It has a pretty extensive EQ that helps, but you can't do a blend of DI and amp signal (its 100% wet). Its not that expensive either.

whichever one you get get something that allows loading in custom IR's - there are a bunch of free ones and out companies like 3sigma have a bunch as well.

I mainly use mine in my EUB chain, where my bass goes thru a IR of an upright bass and makes it sound more AB and less fretless BG, but the speaker IR's on there sound good.

Dont fortet about the Neunaber Iconoclast. The 8x10 preset they created is really good IMO. Stereo in and out if that matters.

The first speaker simulator i stumbled across was the Palmer PDI 09 it gave me great results so i didn't even bother checking out any other options, after a good few years using this live and in the studio i decided i wanted something that had the speaker sim output as a jack as well as the DI (or any two simulated outs), so i ordered a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] as the features seemed perfect, and it also had a gate and headphone out as a bonus, this did not work in my setup AT ALL, the gate was a bit obnoxious and it clipped awfully, i have since found out that as my preamps can put out a pretty hot signal, this would overdrive the neunaber (not in a nice way) - i also realised this was why i'd had issues running noise suppressors after my preamps years ago.

with all this in mind i just went back to palmer and grabbed the Palmer PDI 03jb which had the extra output.

i like how simple the palmer units are, but they sound awesome.

Go digital if you want really good quality and versatility. AMT Pangaea CP-100, Nux Solid Studio are great options. There was a whole tread about digital cabsims somewhere.

It isn't often mentioned, but NUX PDI-1G is a pretty good option if you're totally broke.
It's an active DI with 2 cabsim modes. Only tried it with a guitar, but it sounded pretty good for $20-$25. It would definitely work well with bass too.

I have the Donner DI/cab sim. Not a bad way to dip my toe in the cab sim pool, for only $30.

They are not cab sims, they simulate the whole rig. In fact the cab bit is just a pre set EQ in the VTBass.

Same here. Got a REDDI and PF-50T, so all I need is H and LPF.

Looks like a previous version of the Donner/Ammoon/Monoprice/Mooer/Rowin unit, which is a half-price clone of the Fender Micro DI (see thumbnail image below). The newer units have a -20/0/+20db pad switch. If the 4x12 cab sim circuit is the same as my Donner unit, then it sounds good with bass, to my ear.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the grey Line6 Bass POD. Then again, I go active direct to board with no amp and no cab, and let my sound man make it happen.

I used to have one of these and they are really good. Any Markbass SS amp will do the same of course without needing a speaker to be connected, which is why I sold mine when I bought a Little Mark head.
