Cali76 only smaller?

ok , i must say, it's a pedal i hate just as much as i hate the 3leaf audio wonderlove .... every setting i try , sounds different and great !!!!

i recorded a little test

first just the bass , my beloved MusicMan Stingray directly into the sound card.
then I added some B7K for some fat and rich tone
finally I compressed all of it with the ORIGIN EFFECT CALI76 COMPACT BASS ...

other than "normalize" the bass waves to a normal level , i did not touch the sound with any plug-in or EQ

To be honest, I like your direct tone better than through the B7K. But when you kick that Cali76 in....it SHINES! Just sounds more crisp and defined yet polished...very nice clip - thanks!

You and that Ray sound great, nice work! Just listened to the clip thru my A/V system and your Ray sounds awesome on it's own but when you kick on the Cali it's killer.

Ohhhh the only thing that I just realized that moved is the DRIVE of the B7K , I use it all the way to the left ....

Just got mine yesterday (#83). Took it to jam with my drummer buddy and the first thing I noticed is that the metering jewel is borderline useless. It changes color to show extremes but the entire middle of the spectrum is so subtle it's just not useful at all. Coming from the Empress, which has an incredible level meter, I am super disappointed in that aspect. I didn't mess with it too much yet, but it sounds good so far and is basically noise-free at 18V.

For the lazy impatient TL/DR crowd, in a nutshell the new Compact series has no discernible difference from the original Cali76 Standard. It got a five-out-of-five star rating.

The Origin Effects Cali76 Compact & Compact Deluxe take the modern classic Cali76 to greater heights in a smaller foot-print. While owners of the original Cali76-STD will no doubt be contemplating making the switch to one of the smaller units to gain some pedalboard real estate, I expect a flood of new guitarists will also now jump on the Cali76 bandwagon. The Cali76-C & Cali76-CD both nail comparable tones to the Cali76-STD. The Cali76 Compact Deluxe has in-depth, studio-style control and a parallel compression “Dry” option for guitarists who really like to dial in their compression tones. The Cali76 Compact keeps things simple for getting iconic 1176-like compression without the hassle and is a serious upgrade from your average 2 or 3-knob compressor pedal. Origin Effects now has 2 more entries in their resumé that are among the best compression pedals you’ll ever play.

I expect the reviews for bass will be consistent with that above.

I'm exactly the same (the cali cb and darkglass). One of the main reasons I'm looking at these two is for tone enhancing, adding that warmth. Can't call it at the minute between the two, hopefully Bongo's review will help.

OK here it is! Origin Effects Cali76 Compact Bass and Compact Deluxe Again I am sorry it took so long.

I recommend it for a powerful punchy sound that cuts through, but not so much for warmth.

Thanks Bongo! Great review, the CB sounds like a great compressor but not the sound I'm after. So I can rule it out as a contender, now it's between the Darkglass SS and the Smoothie.
