Callowhill Basses? What do you think?

Kinda tired of the exaggeration. Just a FYI, Callowhill J5 = $1950.00, Stingray 5 = $1,609.00-$1,869.00, Fender Deluxe J5 = $1,499. Same league.

Anyway, back OT:

Anyone want to see the carved body to my P/J?

Man Drew...now you're gettin a JUNK? Very nice my friend.

Yea i revamped my plans. I'm just going with the fretted six i have, the junk P/J i'm getting made now, and the fretless singlecut 6 I'm ordering over the summer. MAYBE, if i get the extra cash, I'm going to see if Tim will do an infini 5 for me with duel Nord MM5.2s:ninja: If that goes down, i'm in a paying rock/metal band, or my salary doubled lol.

OT: I have recently acquired a few new pieces of GB gear that you can try....WHEN YOU COME TO PHILLY!!! lol:p

Went down to the shop today. Tone's body came in and it's NASTY man...REALLY nasty. It's so light that it feels like it'll blow away in a stiff breeze. lol. It's gorgeous too. Keep your eyes on Callowhill.net for the next few weeks. You will be stunned. :bassist:

Ok.Ok.Ok.............I did just add you as a friend on myspace, but now I think I'm going to remove ya'. I am very jealous.........very jealous.
Carey N. told me he saw the body at the paint shop and thought it was chambered. He said he kept looking for the glue line, he just knew it was too light to be real. I just hope there is no neck dive, being that light. Will it be a 5 or 6?

It's a 5ver. The neck for the bass is pretty light too (and GORGEOUS). Once all the hardware and mojo-fied electronics are installed, it should balance great! Now that I've seen what it's going to look like, i'm even more impressed with the appearance than the weight :bassist:

So i got to play the (almost) finished product today. Honestly? All i can say is...SWEET JESUS that bass is AMAZING!!!! Firstoff, the looks:...ridiculous. I can't even explain it. Go look on the myspace for a taste. Second, the playability:The thing feels like it weighs less than my shuttle amp and balanced like a friggin' DREAM sitting down. Even though everything wasn't fine-tuned (Tim needed to put his magic finishing touches on it) it played GREAT and felt as solid as a tank. Lastly, and above all ese...the tone: Even through the little 2x12 fender *uitar amp in the shop it had the depth, richness, and thickness that I had always imagined my dream J-bass to have. On top of that, it had a grind so nasty that i killed puppie in china...all of them. Mr. Majestic called while i was playing it in the shop and got to hear a taste of how terrible my playing is and how much I don't deserve any of my basses lol.

PLEASE, please, please go try one if you ever get the chance. You will be blown away! IMO Tim and Tone are putting out the best basses I could ever hope for, bar none. The only thing might be even better than the bass is the customer service. :D

Ok. I am officially jealous. Thought I would post some pics I found. For all those who haven't seen it in person, here is the ultra-light. Tim told me that this one bass totally disproves the theory that super light ash has no tone. He said it was unfreakin' real. He said it weighs in under 7 pounds, also! And Drew, I promise not to cut up your bass...............well maybe!

It looks sick in the pics, and the pics don't even come CLOSE to showing off how beautiful it is in person.

Mr. Maj, As soon as my PJ is done, I'll ship my 6 down to you for you to check out if you want. PM me and lemme know! I'd ship it to ya now really if I could, but the 6 is my only bass and i have a lot of gigs and auditions comin up soon

You rock!

Going down to pay my P/J off today before I accidentally spend too much money lol. With any luck, the body should go out for paint/finish this week!!!!! :hyper: For the record, i think Mr. Majestic is watering the trees with the blood of fairies to make all the swamp ash so light....:ninja: Have you seen one around lately? Exactly. lol.

:hyper: Alrighty then! As a couple of you know. I have a few basses being built this year for my business and I am excited about all of them, but...................I'm gettin' a Junk! I really like Tim's basses and really prefer the singlecuts, but I have recently sold my other bass and need me a Jazz! Here is what we've come up with so far.

5 string Junk

Flame maple/bird eye maple/flame maple 3pc neck

Birdeye fingerboard with Abalone blocks, thin dark veneer between the FB and the neck

Nordstrand big splits in a larger casing

Aguilar 3 band pre
Controls: Volume, tone, blend, 3-band, active/passive

Satin black Hardware/light weight

Natural polyester, gloss

no pickguard

top cap will be figured ash, extremely figured ash with a dark veneer between the top and bottom (see attached pic)

(possibly) Wooden PU covers w/exposed poles

Pick-up spacing to be similar to that of a Sadowsky Modern

I will sending out the wood in a few days!

Happy, happy, joy, joy! :hyper:

I am really really really on the verge of ordering a bass from Tim. I have been talking with him about his basses for a year or so and after seeing all these he has done and the players that are playing them I just might give him a call tomorrow.
