Can a Cable Make That Much of a Difference?!

This makes no sense to me. Wouldn't lower resistance be better?

I would think it would take 100 feet of VERY thin wire to measure 5 Ohms end to end unless the cable is defective in some way.

Last evening I went though a box of instrument cables of various lengths, ranging from dirt cheap to moderately expensive. The highest reading I got was 0.7 Ohms on the shield of a cheap 20'.

Good catch. I misread it as 5 ohms or higher causing a volume loss, which partially makes more sense.

oay. . . With my meter, set to the 0-5 range, where pin to pin is set to 5 for the baseline, lesser values measure greater amount of resistance. Did I mention this is an OLD school Radio Shack VOM? You know, where you actually have to zero the meter with every test range. . . .

This kind of meter is not capable of reading resistance as low as the actual resistance of an instrument cable. Because of this, it gives nonsense readings.

In any case. . . . . .Done. We'll all just buy and use what makes us happy to get the sound each likes. What's the point of having an opinion, right?

We are talking about facts. Opinions are fine when discussing things that are just matters of taste. It's different though when the "opinion" is disproven and overruled by fact.

It's only because there's soooo many people on the internet, and soooo many people in the world who do not understand the difference.

The internet has merely allowed you to be exposed to more people, thus more irrational people.

You're right. My perception is probably skewed a bit because I wouldn't normally hang out with the type of people that don't understand the difference.

There are ways in which things are perceived that trick the brain.

Perceiving that a higher priced item is better than a lower priced item is one of them.

This is a case where you are being taken advantage of by market psychologists.

Use your brain. Don't let it use you.
