Can anyone identify this thing?

I just got this bass the other day. It sounds and plays amazing and is really well built, but I have no idea what it is or where it came from. The brand on the body is the only identification, no serial, no model, nothing...

Well the chamber under the f-hole is rather small so its not completely hollow. And also, there was a low end manufacturer that put guitars out under the name delta but they changed their name over copyright issues to old hickory.

I got it at a used instrument shop in Huntsville, AL. I traded an 8 string dean rhapsody for this and a kramer stryker.

i've seen similar looking bases, with the same f-hole cutout, similar p/ups and strings thru body etc made by a company called shine, who usually only identify their basses with the brand in the same place as on this.

from what i surmise they're of far eastern manufacture, and although not exactly a prestigious or expensive brand, i've played a couple and they are really well built and sound great for what they are, and i've seen independant reviews saying they play as well as basses costing three times the price.

bearing in mind the delta name was being used by a low end builder, is it possible it's a similar deal? btw, not knocking the bass at all, like i said, ime they're REALLY good value.

I live in the Nashville area. I bought a Delta as a backup for awhile from Nashville Used Music. For the low price I paid for it, I thought it played grear once setup. I remember the electronics being so-so, and the blend knob did absolutely nothing. Probably a defect, but both pups were on all the time.

I also bought a Old Hickory Mandolin from the same store. It says Old Hickory , TN on the headstock, but it had a Made in Korea sticker on the back of the headstock.
It is flamed maple with gold hardware, paid $120 with case nice mandy.

My two cents

Did it have the brand in the same location as mine? Also, thought I would add that it has grover tuners and a brass nut; not, imo, low end features. The knobs are Vol, treb/bass, mid, and blend. The blend on this thing has a huge effect on tone as well. The sound is a very very punchy sound, and with the mids turned down, it has a great scooped crunch sound to it.

Ask the guys at the music store.

Also, not to rain on your parade but have you considered that the bass just may have been upgraded?
