Can I get some love for the cheap basses!!

Is that a jet star? that thing is sweet. Those come around sometimes for cheap. how does it sound? I love the body. Probably no dive w. a slab like that.
Yep. It's the first I had seen in green. My girlfriend got it for me as a present. Great neck, "ok" pickups ...I'll swap those out.
My girlfriend knows I love 'em, so it was too cool of her to buy it for me.
You can't dawg an el-cheap-o. I learned to play on $50 Peavey International P-bass knockoff. When the frets started falling out and the neck bowed beyond adjustment I defretted it, resurfaced the neck and still use it to this day for fun.
My first 6 string was a Brice I got off eBay for $300. I didn't want to go with an expensive one in case I didn't like the 6 string bass. Fortunately, I did and now own 4 of them. I've since defretted this one too.
My standup is a crappy $650 Chinese-made Cremona. I got so sick of paying luthiers to repair the splitting body that I finally bought some clamps and wood glue and just do it myself. It's been re-set about 10 times & I had to have the saddle replaced because it was made of pine or some soft wood that the saddle chord ate right through within my 1st year of owning it. In the bass' defense, I was pretty hard on it in my Rocakabilly daze. Over time, the steel E & A strings have worn through the black paint they covered the fretboard with to make it look like ebony. It's kinda funny actually. I still haven't replaced that bass with a nicer one. I'd love to have an Upton 5 string standup some day but I play it so seldom now, I can't justify dropping the $4000.

This is the best "cheap" bass I have had.
I had one of those and gigged it stock. After I installed Dimario Ultra Jazz pickups in it, I kinda fell out of love with it and sold it.
I put a set of Sadowsky single coils in it and it had the badass bridge when I got it. Great bass for what I have into it. I like having at least one bass I can take out and not have to worry if something happens to it (although I'd hate to lose this one)

My Peavey Fury II. Started playing in a praise & worship band, on a Cirrus BXP that belongs to the church. I'd decided I needed my own, and was looking for something cheap. My boys found it at GC, a trade-in from one of the guys that worked there, for $100.00 Nothing special, but it was cheap, it sounds pretty good, and plays wonderfully. Nice looking too, imo.

I bought a black Yamaha RBX170 in my Junior year of High School in 07 for $170 at GC which I bought by saving up my lunch money.
And just recently bought a Ibanez ATK305 in Trifade (sunburst) for $350 used at the same GC which was heavy then like magic went to get it strung up at my local shop only to find the exact model in the excat color only lighter hanging up long story short I gave my "old" bass to the owner to sell in exchange for the "new" ATK on the wall. Cost? restringing? $10 new bass? FREE! Restringing "New" bass with "old" bass's new strings? FREE!!! Total for new ATK305 $10 ($360 if you want to get technical).
Okay maybe that wasn't the short story ^

1998 Squier Precision that I found in a pawn shop in dire need of some love. I had been wanting to try my hand at refinishing so I picked it up.
After some Fiesta Red paint and tort guard, a Quarter Pounder, and set of TI flats I can't put it down. I pick up this thing and play it whether I'm sitting around the house or gigging over my Fender Jazz and my Spector.

Submitted for your consideration, this 1972 Kimberly 4 string bass guitar, purchased new in 1972 for my 14th birthday, $65 from the Radio Shack catalog. It included a OCBC (original cardboard case) and the tug bar has gone missing over the years. It now sports a "damp basement" patina that cannot be found on non-vintage gear. When plugged in it screams like a banshee, because the pots are all rusted out, and I suspect there is a small animal living underneath the pickguard.
