My Peavey Fury II. Started playing in a praise & worship band, on a Cirrus BXP that belongs to the church. I'd decided I needed my own, and was looking for something cheap. My boys found it at GC, a trade-in from one of the guys that worked there, for $100.00 Nothing special, but it was cheap, it sounds pretty good, and plays wonderfully. Nice looking too, imo.

I've been looking for one of these. Never can find right color - they must have done most of them in that ugly blue...

I've got the Fury IV version. I love it.

Yeah, I've noticed that too. There's one on Ebay right now, $100 + $35 shipping. It looks to be in good shape, except for the horrid blue finish. If I had the money to burn, I'd get it and play with a re-finish.

It's kinda hard to pin down exactly what color mine is. The cell phone pic my sons sent me from GC showed a beautiful maroon color. Under the stage lights at church it looks a deep chocolate brown. In the living room it takes on an almost purplish hue. Of course, it could be because I'm red-green color-blind...

But whatever the color, they're pretty good cheap basses.

I got one of those Rogue LX200BF's off craiglist for $60. I had no idea about these things, but I said wth, it's a fretless for $60. I emailed the guy and asked if it was a really light bass, cause I hate those. I got over there and nearly did a double take when I picked it up. Nice and substantial. "Select hardwood body" could be MDF for all I care - this thing thumps. Does a pretty good imitation of the sting tone. I have a P/J set of quarter pounders I been thinking about putting in it, but I dunno, I kinda like the breakup the stockers get. I also like that the neck is unlined.

Anyway, if that's not a good enough deal for you, the guy threw in a brand new pack of Rotosound 88's and a nice Musician's Friend padded gig bag lined with (fake) fur. It just has a rip in the nylon on the outside, exposing some of the padding. Big fat pocket on the front. The guy asked me if I wanted the "crappy gig bag"... hell yeah.

The only thing cheap I've noticed about it is the p pickup routs have extra space around them, like they were a little sloppy. The tuners don't even suck. The neck is contoured all the way up to the body, not like my Fenders that turn into a 2x4 at the 14th fret. The bottom of the bridge plate is bent a little... I may throw a Gotoh 201 on it. Looks like a direct replacement.

All my basses are cheapos but my current favorite is a Rogue 405b love it to splinters! and the liquid red quilt is so nice, ladies like the red. i also have a first act ME104 that was had for $35 just for funzies plus since my first true cheapo 4 string was sold (still dont know who made that thing...an abomination though..)i needed a 4 string. still looking for a nice cheap one. thinking about the SX lines, but i really want a rickenfaker... alot.

As per a few of the replies here, most of mine are cheapy pawn shop specials...
My favourites of the moment are Lex and Pixie:

Lex is a J&D Luthiers which I landed for net $100 (bought her and a four for $300, walked two doors down to another pawnshop and sold the other for $200)

Original pup was long gone, had a seymour duncan in her, which was just horrible......bartolini Mk iV goes in (scored that for $50 AUD) and she is the sweetest little thing

Love rocking out on my cheap girls..lol

I love a good deal.

black parts P - less than $300 on ebay with a Badass and a graphite-reinforced neck. dropped a Fralin in it and it's smoking.

Gretsch Electromatic - everyone knows what good little basses these are by now.

ESP Vintage Four - got a deal on this because it was in a music store fire! some ebay dealer took it home, fixed it up, and resold. I think I paid $500? Great, great bass, probably the best sounding bass I own. Weighs a ton, though.

Mustang - bought it used. these basses are true values, imo.

green Parts P - less than $200 on ebay! look at her, she's a beauty. MIM body, Squier neck, Reverend pickup. The previous owner really put a lot of love into this thing.

Both the basses I currently own were under $300 (used). The Peavey Milestone II (P-bass copy) I scored for $109 at a pawn shop. Put SD Quarter Pounder pickups in it, and D'Addario Chrome flats and it sounds really great.

The MTD 5 string was a gift from my wife. I don't really know if an MTD qualifies as a "cheap-o" bass, but she got it for only $250. So while it's not really cheap quality, it had a cheap price.

Nice bass you got there. I've been thinking about purchasing an arbor bass myself. I've been curious about these basses for quite a while.

+1 for the cheap bass club. because you KNOW they're the best kind of bass. (And the best kind of mojo- the kind where you say to yourself "you know, i could probably make one of these....).

comp's on the fritz so no pics, but JBP artist. $225 with cable, gig bag and strap. greatest bass ever.

You don't have to spend a fortune to find nice basses. You just have to be patient and pick your spots.

I picked up this Washburn CB14 as a b stock, due to a couple of hairline cracks in the top finish, you have to really look to even notice them. It comes with Egnater active pickups, mahogany body with cocobolo top, ebony fretboard, slimmer neck than an Ibanez SR. Plays fantastic. Got it for $250, new. I can honestly say I've never had a better 250 dollar bass.

By the way I'm sorry but I just don't buy the reasoning that you must spend thousands of dollars to get a bass. I've never spent that in my life and I never will. If someone else wants to, hey be my guest, but I don't believe you have to.

The ray on the right is actually an OLP MM-2 that I refinished the headstock with a custom mock up MM decal.

Also dropped a Basslines pickup in it. It couldn't do smooth and round too well, but for slap, punk, etc it was a dream - the neck was AMAZING.

Sold it to get a fender fretless jazz though :rolleyes:

Here are 2 of the 3 of my main basses. A Peavey Milestone BXP-5 ($100) and a 5 string fretless SX ($89). Picture taken in the studio where I recorded with both basses (Hear the album here). My third bass is a used ($150)Link Removed. I'm having a blast without emptying the pocketbook!

It's probably been mentioned before (I didn't read every post), but I discovered that an uber-expensive bass doesn't make me a better player. So until I win the lottery, my used MIM P-basses will continue to serve me just fine.

It's a cheap price [!], but not really a cheap bass. The S.U.B. was the real deal, a SLOMM, not some bass substitute. I have one exactly like that, BTW. I was going to bag on all the atrocious blue basses in this thread, but looking at the MM textured wine-vomit purple, maybe I'd better shut up. ;)
