Repitition dulls the senses. And there are occasions when a carefully considered and well placed curse word can really add emphasis and put a point across better than a half hour poetic oration.
So my feeling is, if you want any swearing you do to be effective and not just serve as a placeholder for a temporary loss of your train of thought (or simply an inadequate vocabulary) - pick your occasions carefully. Like in music, the difference between a master stroke and a gimmick is all in the placement and the timing. So if you are going to curse, do it like you truly mean it.
I rarely curse. But when I do it gets immediate and serious attention from the people who know me. But only because I choose to keep it in reserve for very special occasions.
Like my grandmother used to say: Rules are rules and should be followed. But if you do decide to break the rules, do it for a good reason. And when you do - be sure to break them hard.

I once heard someone dang who I swear swore dang every fifth word whether or not dang it fit in the dang sentence, without regard for rules dang of grammar or proper dang usage. It drove me up the wall. I'm like "Aaaagh! These words still have grammar rules associated with them!!! Use the freaking word correctly in the dang sentence, alright already!"

From my perspective, "cussers" *THINK* they are impressing others with coolness. But in reality, whenever I hear someone cussing (or see someone cussing in written form), the automatic reaction my brain has is one of the following:
"ewww......a lowlife!"
-OR-
"wow......an adult with a 3rd grade mentality"
I'm not saying my brain's reactions are correct or appropriate. I'm just saying that my brain automatically thinks that without me telling my brain to think it.
It's kinda similar to when I see a teenager smoking a cigarette nowadays. My brain automatically and immediately thinks "I wonder if that person knows how foolish they are?"
The unfortunate truth is, there are many humans who want so very much to be liked by other humans that they are willing to engage in various behaviors (eg, crude language choices, smoking, drinking, drugs, vandalism, etc.) to try to impress other humans so that those other humans will like them more. It's about gaining acceptance among their peers. From my perspective, I view it as a sign of insecurity. I'm 62, but I recall when I was a teenager having a teen buddy who started smoking, and he tried and tried to get me to start smoking. I told him "no way dude" and I stuck to my guns. I think I lost some "coolness points" with him for my refusal to "light up" with him, but my health was a higher priority to me than winning a buddy's approval and acceptance. Of course, a couple of decades later, the light bulb finally went on in his brain and he quit smoking.
There have always been insecure humans among our species, and there always will be. So I guess we just have to get used to that. But I am thankful that Talkbass, which is a public place, prohibits foul language.

Patton: you can do anything you want in life. And I mean *ANYTHING*. Just know that with making choices, you are also creating consequences of those choices. So, as the knight in the 3rd Indiana Jones movie said, "choose wisely!"

Now, at a dive bar while hanging with your buddies....that is an entirely different setting/situation.
Never understood curses in a text or when typing. When I’m talking, they just slip out. And there’s no undoing it. But when typing, it’s something you actually have to think about. And it’s something you can read and correct before sending it. And if you think about it, when does it really get the point across better? “Don’t curse” and “Don’t freaking curse” mean the same thing to me.
Finding it difficult to respond without using curse words exclusively.
Thats what makes TB great! Its nice to be on the internet and NOT in a totally toxic environment. Just browsing basses I cant afford
