Can someone advise on an Ibanez, please?

A good friend of mine is a guitar player who's starting to get into the bass and wants to try out a 5-string. He found a used bass he's considering to start out and asked me about it. Myself being mainly a Fender/Gibson family, tunnel vision havin' old fart, thought I could surely get some advice for my friend from one or two guys among my TB brethren. It would certainly be appreciated!

Here's a few pics and a store ad that he sent me. If you have this bass or have had any experience, good or bad, I'd love if anyone can advise. The seller is asking for what amounts to a little more than half of the listed price. I think it's a good deal if there's no issues, but I'm not qualified enough to be sure.

Thoughts anyone?

Get it.

SR series is solid, model numbers over 1000 more so. Being a guitarist, he will probably enjoy the slimmer neck and the profile as well. (Every guitarist who has played either my SR506 or my SR750 has loved the slim neck and string action.) I don't know about the string spacing on that bass, though, being a five-string.

If he's got the money to burn, then that's a good choice.

For sure the string spacing is 19mm. I remember looking it up to realize that Ibanez had 5-stringers with normal string spacing.

That’s a great looking bass! I can’t think of anything to complain about they’re good instruments. Really cool necks. eBay thinks folks are willing to pay that or more for them. If he likes it, it seems like a winner.

Great bass. A little different than the typical Ibanez SR. As others have said, 18mm (and adjustable) string spacing. The preamp is great, better than any other Ibanez I've played. Really a nice 5 string.

That's a pretty sweet bass. Aguilar pickups. I've only found one source so far (and also again in this thread) but supposedly it has 18mm string spacing where other Ibanez SR models might only have 16.5mm.

Probably sounds way better than the SR500 in my avatar did with Bartolini MK-1, while keeping the sleek form and light weight qualities..

It's also purdy.

I think the 'W' in the model name indicates the wider string spacing. In pictures, it doesn't look like the saddles are packed quite as tightly together as on other 5 string Soundgears, so 18mm sounds and looks about right.

Very nice bass! Go for it!
I'm sure @hypercarrots can tell us more about.
He's selling it for around $900? A little more than half?
I'd say that's a great price.
