Can someone advise on an Ibanez, please?

I'm not an Ibanez fan personally. I don't think that price is nowhere fair tbh. Send me the sellers contact info and paypal so I can send him a piece of my income...
err... mind.

In all seriousness if there wasn't any obvious faults with it and someone was asking if they should buy it at that price I would give the go for it nod.

Very modern and very capable. You WANT a very hard neck (as this one has) to coax that definition on the lowest notes as well as the bigger strings up the neck, and with the separate bridges, those can boost that definition a bit more. This is a very modern sounding bass, quite evolved past a typical Precision Bass thump (though with those pickups and EQ network, I'm sure it could be found as well). The Soundgears are about as small a bass as can be wrapped around a full 34" scale with typically slim necks, even on their fives and sixes.

These kinds of axes vs. traditional Jazzes and Precisions, the analogy would be a GSX/R or R1 or CBR/RR alongside a Sportster or Electra Glide or Indian Chief.

One of these in EXC shape for 1/2 retail is a no-brainer, IF it suits the fella in question. IF he really wants a Jazz or something like that, for an inexperienced bassist or doubling guitarist, this ain't it.

That is a very nice bass. The Premium models are very nicely appointed instruments in that price range, and the fit and finish are very good. If I needed another modern 5'er, I'd be seeking out that deal right now.

The general consensus is buy it. If he or she doesn't like it, with a price that good, they can easily get out of it and into something new. I have never bought a bass with pure intentions of immediately flipping it but keep that strategy in mind when I do buy.

that's exactly where I am with most of the Ibanez bass line.

all superb instruments - I had the recent headless for a minute: fantastic instrument, all the right specs.

but eegad, what's with the poodle-burst poplar burl tops these days?

:laugh::laugh::laugh: I actually have one of those 5-string poodle-burst Ibby's as well as its more sundued 4-string little brother. Follow link.

that's the 4 string headless i had!

man, what tone with that thing!

that instrument prompted me to upgrade my 2 Jazz basses with onboard preamps (Audere and J Retro).

i couldn't bond with the headless, but as a product designer, the ergo-design of the EHBs is amazing.

that neck with the stainless steel frets, wow!

i've been looking for a headed (!) version of the EHB, that's what drew me to this thread.

hmmm, wondering if the 5 string EHB might suit me better. (here we go). how's the B?

I'm also not bonding too well with the 4-stringer. I agree though, tone of the gods and a very stable ergonomic neck.

I'm having a better time with the 5-string version, better bonding. I think it might be due to me being more at home with 4-stringers, but the way this 5-stringer hangs (neck tending to point up) makes it easier for me to take more frequent looks at my left hand position.

Great bass! I have an SR2600....

Ibanez makes solid instruments that compete well with other higher dollar basses.

A good choice for a guitar player convert as the necls are thin, even for a 5 string.
Though they have thin necks they aren't prone to bowining, at least in my experience.

I'd recommend most Ibanez basses any day.
