the ACTUAL difference between the
MarkBass HT-503 and the MarkBass TA-503.

and can someone link me to a good review of the HT-503? in google ive only been able to find ones in japanese and german....

i played a HT-503 today through an Agiluar 410 and i liked it, but i am really keen to learn from the wisdom and knowledge of the wider bass community...

That model is not on the site, and I've never heard of it. The Markbass letters represent the amplifier and pre design... so TA is a tube in the pre with an analog power amp.

HT... can't quite come up with what that would be. The T would be 'tube' in the pre. I know there are 'class H' power amps (like the EBS stuff, I think), but I don't think that would be it.

If Peter Murray does not show up on your thread in a day or two, PM him. He's the Markbass rep, and is very helpful on the site anwering questions like this.

i know it's discontinued. thats why its on sale at my local store. at a decent price.

it has a silver face instead of the yellow/orange one.

i was wondering what updates might have been made between the HT and the TA.

I did a search and there is another TBer who bought one of these used, and got a manual with all the spec's, etc. from Peter Murray. PM Peter Murray and ask for an HT 503 manual, and then download the TA 503 manual from the Markbass website. That should give you the info you are looking for.

In looking at a few pictures of the HT when I did a Google search, my guess is the main difference is heavier weight and traditional power supply versus the switching power supply used in the new amps. While the front panel looks quite different, the controls are quite similar.

IIRC it's heavier than the newer stuff and according to opinions of users, who have tried also the newer stuff, the last generation (the current line) sounds better.

But if you do like the sound, and the price is right (compared to the current model), I'd say go for it.

the price is ok, not really "right".... but the problem is no one carries markbass in my town. so i cant really comparre it with the current line. i just drool over it on the internet....

seriously i really liked the tone in the shop. i tested side by side: eden, top of the line warwick, top of the line mesa, aguliar, and this markbass amp just sounded the most like ME... maybe not the cleanest or sharpest, but i just felt at peace pulling tone from it.

probably go ahead and purchase it in a few weeks. im just so used to thoroughly researching a piece of gear on the net before buying it, and havent had the chance do to that this time around. so just feel alittle unsettled... thats all.
