I get where you are coming from. Don’t think it will work though.

One thing I first noticed as a upright bass freelance gigging teenager almost 50 years ago ...the older guys (50-80) on the breaks always turned the topic conversations to something in the range of a 12 year old boy. Everybody giggled. And we were wearing tuxedos in the best hotels in town.

It’s the same today at gigs, and I’m sure will be the same 50 years from now. Boys aren’t gonna change much. Men either.

I understand your sentiment that there are more important things ( to you ) and this is beneath your thresh hold of ire, but you must understand that others are entitled to their opinion. When it's well voiced, as this one was, with good discourse, which there has been, then it's not harmful. It's not hurting a "cause" and it's certainly better than not saying anything.

That's exactly what I was aiming for, really. Just to have a conversation about something that occurred to me. I wasn't entirely correct in my initial post, and I've already learned something about the origin of the term. Also, I do agree that we can all choose to take a step back and choose not to be offended by every little remark. There are certainly much bigger issues in our world that deserve real action.

That being said, I'm also not the type to delete things I've posted just because I've changed my mind about them. I'm still learning, and (for me) this thread has been educational. I'd rather say something, be proven wrong, and learn something than to not say anything at all.

my bass has nads .. !? just doesn't sound right .?!

since my bass has a 'G string' ... why can't it have balls .?

in the 70's , we played with ' super balls ' .. ! my bass needs those

can my bass have a ' little blue pill ' please ..??

since my bass is passive = Low - T .. !?

let's see .. the end pf my bass = head , where the frets are = neck , that curvy part with pickups = body , flip the over = back , got a upper/lower horn , nut , saddle , etc ... my bass has lots of human/animal-ish pieces parts .. !

what i don't get ..? plays like butter ..!?? fatty , slimy , soft yellowish goo ...

To elaborate, because I'm having more thoughts on it: What I meant is that, in the world *outside of Talkbass*, people often twist statements like "Does [this term] bother anyone else?" to mean "The SJW don't want you to say [blank] and they are ruining free speech!"

Obviously and of course I would never assert that a forum on Talkbass is setting back social justice movements outside of the forum. That would be...asinine. I was trying to parallel this thread with things I've seen in real life, and it (apparently!) failed. But I think generally this thread has been enlightening and interesting to read, so I thank OP for putting it out there.

And tone is so subjective, you can literally use any word to describe what you're hearing, so why do we constantly refer to balls when other words like punch, boom, gusto, substance, drive, and many others can serve essentially the same purpose?

Anyone feel similarly? Anyone have suggestions for alternative words?

I just want to ensure everyone who wants to play bass feels welcome in the club!
