Pretty simple - you can train your ears to pick out particular sounds.

Before spending a lot of time doing ABX testing on mp3 encoder rates, I could only pick out really low bitrate mp3s... after a few months of testing, I started to be able to "hear" (or at least recognize out of the soup) certain artifacts of mp3 encoding.

You can do the same thing with any phenomenon. If there is a particular "sound" to something, and you repeatedly train your ears to hear it - you can drastically increase your ability to pick it out.

Just like learning pitch recognition.

i like the look of maple and rosewood did dan spill the beans? is B rosewood , I didnt want to spend an hour reading , because I know what I like, I like my maple ,ebony , and rosewood boards they all sound equally crappy when im playing them

I like the rosewood!:D
I have 8 rosewood + 1 pau ferro, 7 ebony and only 2 graphite/phenolite, 2 wenge and 2 maple fingerboards. Just counted them, 22 fbs!:eek:
