Cannabis

At least it sets an example. Other states would be able to jump on the wagon instead of being the lone wolf. At some point if enough states make the choice to legalize the federal govt. will have no choice but to change the law. Any step forward is a positive one.

No! Cannabis is not what the liars have told you it is. Name one person who died from weed?????????

I can name one.

But I can name a whole lot more who died from cigarettes and alcohol abuse.

You should probably use drugs as a coping mechanism..

Just kidding. But i'll be willing to bet that is what plenty of people do.

A relative of mine went to jail for armed robbery years ago (He was a heroin addict), turned his life around in jail, learned a trade, really set things straight. After been out of jail for a few months they sent him a bill for something like 20 grand "Victims of crime", something to do with repaying the trouble he cause essentially. Now, for most people who have just come out of jail, no job, no money, no employability, how do you make 20 grand real quick??

There not interested in rehabilitating you, its the money that matters.

Having just graduated from university, I can honestly testify to a number of highly intelligent students who both smoke pot and somehow manage to get their degrees, go to jobs and function like a normal human being. This included law students, medical students and trainee doctors.

Fact is that any drug (and this goes for hard and 'soft' drugs) can only amplify what is already present in the mind of the person taking it. These chemicals have an affect on brain chemistry, they don't add anything to it.

As far as the medical benefits goes, there are TONS of study showing beneficial effects in medical use of cannabis, ranging from a migraine cure to helping chemotherapy and MS patients. There's already a drug called Satitex which is THC-based.

Just being curious about the truth & lies related to cannabis.

/\ From the originator of this thread.

There is a movie called "Grass", narrated by Woody Harrelson, that documents how and why the laws and society's attitude towards marijuana are the way they are. If you don't know the story behind pot's prohibition you should check it out.

A brief summary from IMDb -

Storyline

This film explores the history of the American government's official policy on marijuana in the 20th century. Rising with nativist xenophobia with Mexican immigration and their taste for smoking marijuana, we see the establishment of a wrong headed federal drug policy as a crime issue as oppposed to a public health approach. Fuelled by prejudice, hysterical propaganda and political opportunism undeterred by voices of reason on the subject, we follow the story of a costly and futile crusade against a substance with questionable ill effects that has damaged basic civil liberites.

A bit of warning though, this film will make you angry when you see how racism, business interests and ONE man's anti-pot crusade in the 30s created the drug fear environment that survives to this day.
