Cannabis

If you are predisposed to certain psychological issues through genetic's or other, it can be a trigger that set's the ball rolling, it can exacerbate an already pre existing and underlying condition.

As far as de-motivation is concerned weed work's on the same uptake receptors in the brain as the feeling of 'satisfaction' by this I mean, if you do something well, job, playing, creating, you get a glow of 'satisfaction from your work', a mental reward so to speak, weed works on those same receptors too, you get 'rewarded' for well, not doing much/anything at all, in this way it is a de-motivator which mean's that things happening in life that should be addressed, take a back seat, that can be a problem.

I've found people whom I've known with cannabis addiction that are using it for an emotional crutch for already underlying mental issue's, which would be treated with pharmaceutical med's if diagnosed properly, but then you choose which set of side effects you prefer, med's or cannabis, or which works for you and which doesn't.

Skunk I find is so much stronger now with the THC content than back in the day, you do have to treat with more respect ime, weed shouldn't ever be replied upon as an answer to problems, it should just be enjoyed responsibly for what it is imo.

This is absolutely not true. The main mechanism with marijuana involves completely separate receptors. Cocaine, opiates, in fact most drugs in general, trigger dopamine and other associated neurotransmitters - THOSE are what are triggered as the "reward" mechanism. That's why kicking those addictions is so hard. Cannabis has its own class of neurotransmitters and receptors, called cannabinoids. They don't work in the same way as most others.

No, I get it from this guy:

I prefer the Chinese one myself.

Step one: Netflix/rent/stream "The French Connection."

Step two: Thank me later.

you got heroin from gonemovie.com? wow, I had no idea that stuff was so mainstream! ;)

^ From the 'Man with the Golden Arm' perhaps : )

...the hell are you guys on about?

True, but it could happen taking codeine or heck, ibuprofens to, yet I don't see those being banned ;)

Not really the same thing as they aren't psychoactive drugs. I should have been clearer with the 'any' and added 'psychoactive'.

Either way though, I don't mean to argue the point. Just wanted to mention that I wouldn't buy into the 'debunking the psychosis'.

Carry on :)

Right dude. I totally forgot about all the violence that goes on and all the innocent people who are killed every year due to drugs. Even if you legalize, let's say cocaine, do you really think there won't be junkies who might resort to mugging an innocent by-stander for another 15-20 to go help score again? Same with Heroin and a whole slew of other stuff.

That already happens. But legalizes substances would be cheaper than illegal substances. It won't end the problem, but I could alleviate it a little.

My research is a few years old, It may be a separate set of receptors, but the reward mechanism is definitely tickled by Cannabis, this is why it is considered a classic de-motivator and has been for years, it does satisfy in a way that would usually have to be worked for, research is still undergoing as far as Cannabis is concerned, I never dreamt back in the day that it would become available medically as in California and other states for instance, your right about the set of receptors, but it can turn you into shiftless 'wake and baker' listening to Floyd's 'Great gig in the Sky' most of the day, most every day and eating Cheerios on mass if you smoke it to excess, this I do know ; ) :D

Right, but this isn't all necessarily due to the chemical reactions of the drug itself. To some degree, you have to take into consideration not only the type of person who's most likely to try it, but more importantly, who's visible in their use of it. This is where a lot of those stereotypes come from. There are plenty of upwardly mobile achieving business types these days who indulge, and you don't see them becoming the cliche you described.

Basically, it's not always the drug making someone into the cliche, but the cliche doing the drug as they slide further into the comfort of their stereotype. It doesn't necessarily MAKE you unmotivated (although it sure looks that way), but it can bring to the surface a lack of motivation that was already there, lying dormant somewhere.

But all this is just in my experience, YMMV, etc. :D

Agreed, I've seen the cross section of function and functionality across the board, friends/acquaintance's/whatever, everyone is different as far as effects and tolerance are concerned.

I worked for a Drug Intervention Agency for a year but with the more problematic drugs, the choices that end up as no choice at all.

What I'm trying to say is, you do too much of anything, at all, there will be a price connected. Moderation is the key imo, know thyself, don't make it happen, Cliché attached ;)

You are correct, it could have been a chemical in the rollie paper that triggered his dormant schizophrenia, however given that Cannabis is a Psychoactive substance, it seems most probably, doesn't it?

Not necessarily. Don't get me wrong, Im not saying that pot couldnt have triggered his reaction, but realistically speaking, it could have been any number of things he may have ingested within the last 3 days before, or it could just so happen that his brain reached the tipping point for a number of different reasons that had nothing to do with drugs. The worst reaction Ive ever seen someone on pot have was a panic attack, which was compounded by numerous other stresses that person was dealing with at the time.

That is one long sentence...

My experience shows quite the opposite. I smoke, used to smoke to excess, but Ive never been one to sit around doing nothing all day. Actually, pot is quite a motivator for me, as when I smoke I like to actually be involved in doing something. I'm the guy that likes to do stuff when stoned, as do many others.

The medical marijuana movement has started in Florida.

Jim Lewis is running for attorney general and held a rally for marijuana today. Here we have some harsh penalties, get caught with anything and you're arrested. Over 20 grams it is a felony with intent to sell, which is absolutely ridiculous. Our jails are too overcrowded, we don't have enough deputies & they are not paid enough.

United States has the highest incarceration rate in the world and our jails are all filled with non-violent ''criminals'' . Something has to change. Decriminalize it, tax it, regulate it. Stop locking up innocent people.
