Cannabis

This wasnt actually the case.

Marijuana Tax Act of 1937

regardless of possible dangers of cannabis use, the laws against it seem to be clearly political. certainly our gov doesn't make every dangerous thing illegal. every person has the potential to use or abuse the things they encounter.

one could argue that it is human nature to want to intoxicate ourselves. it exists in all societies throughout history. i had an asian civ prof who told a story about university students in china who had no access to any drugs. so they learned how to hyper-ventilate effectively enough to make themselves drunk (lack of oxygen to the brain, same difference).

"give me moderation... and lots of it!"

Wow....I don't usually come to the Off topic area...but I couldn't resist.

I live in Michigan which is now a Medical Marijuana state. My wife is legal now because of all her ongoing cronic pain. We are also caregivers. For anyone to state that a placebo is as effective as the real deal has no idea of the truth.

There is a reason people prefer different strains for different ailments. Not all MJ is the same. I'm not gonna get into which strains do what....but I know what my patients need.

I have been growing and smoking for over 30 years now. I have a bit of experience in this area. I don't smoke as much now as I did in my, under 30 years...that was for fun. Now I smoke when I need it. Whether it's to help relax at night with a strong indica....or something to perk me up or alleviat a headache...like a dominant sativa.

So why am I able to go weeks without smoking? It's such a bad addictive and or gateway drug...right? I never have the urge to smoke it. Even when someone is smoking beside me...the smell doesn't make me wanna have some. Unlike cigs that I must have if I smell someone smoking...or get in my car, or sit down in front of the computer, or just finished a meal, or having a drink at the bar ect ect.

And I can sit in a room with one or more people that have been smoking weed...and I'm not...and I don't find them to be silly or in their own conversations. Maybe some people have only experienced kids smoking....and of course it's all so cool for them...but as an adult....it doesn't turn you into an idiot...unless you are an idiot to begin with.

I urge everyone that is uninformed...to become informed. Our country wastes billions every year pretending to be fighting a war on drugs. Not to mention peoples lives that are ruined with a criminal record for a so called crime that didn't have a victim.

By the way....how in the world did the perennial pothead Cheech Martin manage to kick Anderson Cooper's butt on Jeopardy last week? He shouldn't even have any brain cells left by now.

I suffered multiple breaks to both the ankle and leg last year. It was a brutal time. In the first few weeks, very, very, very bad pain.

Vicodin helped me in a big, big, big, big way. [that's 4 bigs for those of you counting]

I don't deny that it can be effective, hell when my ex had her wisdom teeth pulled she was babbling like a fool and completely loopy. A girl I was talking to about 2 months ago told me vicodin gave her migraines. Everybody's body reacts in a different way. Unfortunately mine was not affected.

Wow, this thread is still open?:hmm: Politics and drugs - double whammy.

Mods must be on vacation at the TB resort or something. :hiding:

Well most kept politics out of it and told personal opinions/experience or some tried to inform people or simply advocate a side or the other, which isn't to bad imo. A few smart-twats went politic, all in all I think this thread is instructive and entertaining, but a lot of things should be taken with a grain a salt, if not a lot of grains.

oh- i just remembered something... has anyone seen that "marijuana inc" program on msnbc or cnbc (its honestly on multiple times per week)? im definitely biased, but i was surprised at how stupid the thing was, though i guess thats what you get with al roker hosting that subject matter, despite where msnbc obviously stands politically.

some people i know thought it was neat, but everyone "in the know" agreed that it was really pretty stupid, and that they portray the mendo/humbolt area as being some lawless land full of diesel generators destroying the environment. i know growing on state land is quite common up there, but i know theres not massive slash and burn efforts to clear out space for harvest.

i just thought id throw that out there and get some opinions, because between that and the history channel programs ive seen on cannabis, i swear the only good thing ive ever seen, even in this modern age, where youd think the scare tactics wouldnt be so prevalent, was a program from the standpoint of law enforcement. i forget the name, and have long since deleted the file, but it made the most sense and painted the most realistic picture of marijuana arrests and the business. if anyone saw that thing and remembers the name, let me know; it was cool.

I'm pretty familiar with the area and the operations there. The slash and burning is done by CAMP. Growers prefer the cover of the natural foliage. Generators are often buried to avoid detection. Funny enough, it was in the news today that Humbolt is rallying to secure it's name as a brand and region as a mark of quality. Much like Napa Valley is known for wine.

I've seen the V bomb dropped and I have to relate a story of my visit to the doc. I came down with pleurisy and to relieve the pain the doc gave me lortabs which is I believe hydrocodone and acetaminophen. They also gave me ibuprofen at the same time to help with the inflammation.

I quickly realized how easy it was for people to get addicted to something like that (amongst other painkillers, morphine especially). It had me feeling pretty good and I wanted to feel like that all the time. I stopped using them when the inflammation and pain went away (basically after the refill ran out) but as far as side effects from long term abuse of the stuff,...I don't know what they are and I don't even want to think about them.

Pot on the other hand is basically non addictive (at least physically, there are no withdrawals) and can be an effective pain killer. Which would you rather have. A non addictive natural substance that is effective and has no long term ill side effects or something that can **** your body and your mind up and is basically a poison?

Morphine is a natural substance that is effective, and the physiological adverse effects (even longer term) aren't actually as terrible as that post makes them sound... so, other than the dependence thing, calling one a poison and the other not seems pretty arbitrary and maybe a little bit biased.

I've always compared weed to world of warcraft. It is extremely fun and a lot of people do it. Depending on your definition of addicting, it either can be or isn't in the slightest bit. There's a lot that goes on inside your mind when you do it, and it isn't harmful in its own right, but ultimately you're just sitting in a chair not doing anything at all. Moderation is key.

I've never heard an awesome album come out of intense world of warcraft playing, though.:p

I personally hate the stuff. In the 70's when even i smoked it we did it in small groups and small amounts a joint here a bowl there. Today its out in your face. People are "blazin" it in blunts smoking it driving around in cars freely and it is now stronger than it was years ago. Its more in your face and outfront and i hate seeing it ,smelling it all around.
I also see allot of the younger users who drag around high on the stuff all time acting like they can hardly talk or walk in gas stations etc getting another blunt wrapper. I had a sister in law that has allowed the stuff to ruin her jobs and marriage and a nephew who lost the best job he ever had due to it also. For me...keep it illegal forever!

Awesome, this thread has generated this in my ad bar:

Crazy to say it, but vaporization technology is changing all of this. No more smell, no more burning plant matter, no more releasing CO.

Hemp was made illegal by paper giant W.R. Hurst, and the petroleum lobby. Hemp oil BLOWS AWAY wood pulp for making paper for more reasons than I can fit in a post here, and beats diesel fuels for combustion point, clean burning, and a million other factors, too. Not the least of which is that it's an annually renewable resource! I'll say this again ANNUALLY RENEWABLE RESOURCE. That's a far cry from the inherently finite process of pumping all the poison juice out of the granite marble we live on, and torching it into our atmosphere like morons.

Industrial hemp should have been re-legalized 30yrs ago, and the fact that it hasn't, is proof 110% positive that pure, unadulterated, corporate, EVIL runs this country. To believe otherwise is folly.

I defy anyone, anywhere, to come up with a single reason why fossil-based fuel is better than hemp oil-based fuel, other than who's pocket the profits go into. It is pure poison, and we have known this since square one.

Instead of hemp which grows most anywhere and requires little care, we are still spending a gazillion dollars building oil derricks to go miles into the ground. Think about that, MILES into the ground! Even worse, MILES into the ground UNDER a mile of ocean!!!! Instead of planting a crop that can be reaped every year, and in some climates TWICE A YEAR, we are intentionally and proactively still growing the fossil fuel industry, even adding the environmental catastrophe that is hydro-fracking.

All this because Hurst didn't want to give up the profits off his paper mills, in spite of the fact he was a billionaire twice over from the newspapers he printed on it.
