Carvin BX500... Should I buy one???

I'm very seriously considering buying the Carvin BX500 amp head, However I am worried since I've read so many complaints about different issues with this amp. Are the issues still happening or is it something they've addressed? I don't want to invest in a piece of equipment that is going to break down. So I'm asking you who have a newer one, any issues?

Anyone feel free to correct me but the general consensus from owners is that all issues have been resolved with the exception of one. The ribbon connections can still cause problems after a time. The situation can be avoided by pulling each and spraying with contact cleaner. Some do this every once in a while (depending on use, every six months or year) while others just wait until until it starts acting up.

To me, it's worth the trouble, although I just ordered a BXA 1500 which will go in the same rack. That way my butt is covered no matter what.

My ears still prefer it to so many other amps. Your mileage may vary.

Any manufacturer can have a problem with their products. If man can make it, man can mess it up.
That being said, I've had my BX500 for 16 months with no problems. I also have Carvin cabs and a Carvin bass. Yes, I would do it again.

I had one, and I've had problems with it (that manifested almost immediately after the warranty expired), but I really liked it when it was working, to the point that if cleaning the ribbon cable contacts doesn't fix my problems, I'm going to send it back to Carvin for repair. I suppose that's kind of a left-handed recommendation. But, knowing what I know, if I didn't have one, I would take a chance on one. They seem to have solved a lot of the early problems, and if you get a good one, it's a great amp.

Just because it's there, you don't have to turn it up to 10 ! Also, it's a more versatile amp for not that much more $. But, I did own the BX500 for awhile. Just could'nt resist the BX1500 when Carvin dropped the price to $499!
