Tell me if i'm just want instant gratification..

so, I finally sell my thumb5 neck through. i absolutely love the bass, but i have a need for a 5 and a 4.

i call carvin right when they open and ask "if i buy a bass that you have in stock, can it go out today?" and i'll pay the upcharge for 3 day shipping to get it here friday (rehearsal on sat).

answer on the other end "no"

not it's possible or let me check, or which bass. nothing. just "no".

am i expecting too much?

same day music and zzounds will do it by 2pm. i called at 10 their time.

IIRC, Carvin does a setup on in stock instruments before they're shipped out.

From my understanding, they don't send them out ame day because they put the bass back through their set-up process before they send it out, which takes time and they won't bump it up in the queue.

Yep, they go over each bass with a full setup, new strings, full cleaning, full inspection, stuff like that.

zzsounds/mfriend/music123/samash can send out out the same day because they just pick one off the pile and throw it on the truck.

Some of their sales guys can be pretty terse. Overall, the company has great customer service, though. And, it is a good thing that they don't want to send an instrument out before someone has given it a set up and inspection. That doesn't excuse the sales department guys from giving a good explanation of the process to their customers, and if this guy had a good sales sense, he would have been trying to sell you on the care the instrument gets before it is sent out. Sorry for your bad experience! Carvins are still great basses, I hope you get the one you want.

I own two Carvin guitars, one my wife got me and one I ordered custom. I bugged the poo outta those guys when I was ordering, but when it came in I understood where the extra time was going. It'll be well worth the wait.
