Now that I think about it, on my ex LEJ 5, that was the same case for me, I preferred the B string strung through the bridge.

Regarding the posts on stringing through the body or through the bridge... I have never noticed a difference when I have tried this on various basses (mostly Fender), until the SB5000. When I received my SB5000 from Carvin it was strung through the body and it sounded fine. Using the same strings I strung it through the bridge to see if there was any difference and I could tell a noticeable difference in tone. Stringing through the bridge gave me more definition and was slightly more aggressive sounding. The biggest difference was from the B string. IMO the B string sounded weaker when going through the body as opposed to through the bridge.

This is all just IMO and IME. I would suggest trying it out and see if your experiences vary from mine. My SB4000 should arrive in less than two weeks and I requested Carvin to string it through the bridge.

I would have never considered this color combo, but with that pickguard and the maple fingerboard that is one kick-ass bass!

Speaking of Scale Lengths.......

I'm currently playing a couple of Lakland 5 strings that are 35" scale and we tend to detune 1/2 step so that our singer can hit those high notes.

Having less tension naturally makes the strings "floppier" but the 35" scale seems to help.

I know the SB5000 is 34" scale - so has anyone played gigs with their SB5000 tuned 1/2 step down? How was the tension? Did you have to raise the bridge saddles?

I changed the pickguard, it use to be black and the knobs were chomes.

My SB4000 is Ash with a flame maple top. It weighs in at 9.56 lbs. It doesn't feel that heavy at all and balances just fine.

The one I have now is ash/maple, weighs 10.4, and is quite tail heavy.
Plays and sounds awesome though.

Yeah, 10.4 is a bit on the heavy side for a 4 string.

I play in Eb all the time actually. it holds up perfect. no tuning issues and didnt require a set up at all. It doesnt feel floppy at all. such a great bass for the price.
