This is my first Carvin and my first non-ultra-cheap 5 string (I played around with an SX 5 string last year). I haven't gotten an official estimate yet, but I'm guessing it will be around March 1st some time.

Hey do you guys string all the strings through the body or just the B string?

I don't put any through the bass, but wondered if there was anything to gain from doing that. Any logic behind one way or the other?

Sterling Ball (of Musicman) said to me that he thinks string-through is BS and has no effect, and he only includes it on their basses because the players demand it. I know he is very opinionated, but I found that interesting...

I'm sure it adds a little more tension on the strings, for some bass players stringing the B string through the body especially on a 34" scale bass help tighten the B string a bit.

So right about the thur the body, I go thur the body If the B string I use is to long for the bass.

I don't know off the top of my head if the 5000 is 35" scale, but I can say the 4000 fits a protec such that if it were, it would have plenty of room.

Cool, The SB5000 is also 34" scale and 22 Frets.

Regarding the posts on stringing through the body or through the bridge... I have never noticed a difference when I have tried this on various basses (mostly Fender), until the SB5000. When I received my SB5000 from Carvin it was strung through the body and it sounded fine. Using the same strings I strung it through the bridge to see if there was any difference and I could tell a noticeable difference in tone. Stringing through the bridge gave me more definition and was slightly more aggressive sounding. The biggest difference was from the B string. IMO the B string sounded weaker when going through the body as opposed to through the bridge.

This is all just IMO and IME. I would suggest trying it out and see if your experiences vary from mine. My SB4000 should arrive in less than two weeks and I requested Carvin to string it through the bridge.
