Your bass looks amazing!! I especially LOVE the look of the ash body with the tort guard. The selection of the rosewood fretboard for that configuration was a good call too.

Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 2!

Your bass looks amazing!! I especially LOVE the look of the ash body with the tort guard. The selection of the rosewood fretboard for that configuration was a good call too.
I have a LB75 and have been looking at a SB5000 What I'm reading here is telling me that I can't lose. My problem is, should I lose the LB75 and pick up a P and then an SB5 or have the SB5 AND a LB75 in the arsenal. I feel that I really need a good passive bolt on P style for all my rock stuff and the active 5 for more fusion, worship, top 40 pop stuff... Life is so difficult with decisions like these. Any feedback or suggestions?
I agree with you. I never really noticed a difference with other string through basses until the sb5000. I feel like through body gives it a darker, more compressed sound, IMHO. I've been much happier with the strings through the bridge.

I've only had my SB5000 a week so I can't comment too much on how close it can cover some P bass tones since I haven't had a gig with this bass yet. IMO the SB5000 is very versatile and can get a wide range of tones, with that said I'm still planning on keeping my P basses.
If you are thinking of pickup up a SB5000 then I would keep what you have and play the SB5000 before making the decision on letting the LB75 go. With my limited experience so far, a P bass and a SB5000 could cover just about anything out there.

Just back from a short vacation with the family. I had a chance to stop by Bass Emporium in Austin, Texas today. I got to play several basses there. Fenders, Pedullas, Laklands, Spectors, Modulus, EB Music Mans, etc. And I walked out very happy with my SB5000. I played a Pedulla Jazz Bass type bass that I liked similar to my SB5000, but flipped the price tag over to find it at $3400! I played a Modulus as well that I liked, but it was in the $2200 range or so. None of the Fenders were even in the ballpark, imo. I picked up a Lakland Skyline on purpose to check it out since a lot of people compare them to the SB's. Unplugged, it felt ok. In the same ballpark, I thought. I didn't like the neck profile anywhere near the SB5000 though. So I plugged it in... no comparison to the SB tone, imo. There was a $800 Spector there that felt kinda nice for the price. It had the big EMG humbuckers in it so, I didn't plug it in. I saw another guy plug one in though and it didn't sound that great to me. I was hoping to play a Sadowsky, but they had none in stock.
I was hoping to check out some amps like the TC RH450 and stuff, but they were out of stock on a lot of the popular amps including the Shuttle 9.0. They said the Shuttle 9.0 and RH450's sell as soon as they hit the store along with all the Sadowskys that come in.
The trip made me happy overall with my current gear selection and especially the SB5000.

Say did that Pedulla look like this Rapture 5? I saw one on eBay and wondered how it would compare to an SB5000.
I have both the Pudulla j2 Rapture and the SB5000. I like the tone on the SB5000 better because of the clarity of the tone and how deep the tone can get.
The Pudulla is no joke either the bass can really sing but can't compare to lows of the Sb5000. But if you'll looking to get funky go with the SB5000. I use the Pudulla with main group that sing mellow songs and the Sb5000 with my other band.
Both are very nice basses to own.
Nice to know that the SBs can hold its own against a Pedulla. I've always been intrigued by the Pedulla Rapture--you know, the ole Jazz on steriods thing. But I also found the body to be a little too dinky looking (I'm 6'4") and as Jarrett mentioned, there is that little matter with the price tag too.
