Question for you guys:

Sent my Carvin back on the 24th but for some reason UPS hadn't picked it up yet. I went to the store when I noticed that the tracking hadn't been updated today and ended up taking it to the UPS Hub to send it back. So it shipped today rather than the 24th. Wednesday will have made it 10 days, but it won't get there until Tuesday. I am within the 10 day return policy though right? As long as I send it back within the 10 day period?

I believe you could notify them before the 10 days is up and then ship (within a reasonable amount of time) and still be ok. You can try the bass for 10 days. If the shipping back was included in those 10 days, then you wouldn't have much time to try it. I don't think Carvin is going to give you a hard time about it.

Yea, I'm gonna give Bart a call today. Like I said today would have been the 10th day of having the bass and it actually shipped yesterday, so I think I'm good. Just freaked me out when I found out that the bass hadn't shipped even though I sent it out on the 24th.

Man I took my fretless and fretted SBs to practice with another band last night. About 5 songs in I picked up the fretless to play for one song and I couldn't put it down. That bass is so liberating, its addictive. So many more cool tones and things I can get out of it. Even slapping on it is fun because your are not tied down to the notes in the frets. The guitar player broke out his slide and I was able to double some of that with it. It was a blast. I've been avoiding fretless for a long time. Who knew?

You're killin' me, man! :)

Agreed! Carvin chose a sweet looking piece of ash for that body. How does it play/sound? Did you go with single-coil pups?

It plays well, with a very nice neck and the fretwork is perfect. I did go with the J99 single coils. The neck is a little thicker front to back than a typical Jazz bass. It sounds like an aggressive, somewhat growly, slightly trebly Jazz Bass, (How the heck do you describe tone with words, anyway? :) ) but it can be warmed up with EQ and/or pickup pan.

To Bjazzman: I have been using the Access double bag for over a year now; it does close around that horn, but I feel it takes a touch of stretching and I always make sure the back of the zipper does not make direct contact with the body when zipping, otherwise has been great. The only thing that I HATE about the Access Bag: the shoulder pad is adjustable however you much keep sliding it up to cover the metal dog clip attachments for the straps themselves, otherwise with the weight of two basses, the uncovered clips will dig into your shoulder and leave lovely red marks/scratches, which is rather unpleasant.
