I just received my SB5000 yesterday, I'm trying to register the bass but I can't find the serial number anywhere.

isn't is supposed to be on the back of the headstock?

I do like the maple fretboard with no dots. Although I would have gone with the ultimate stealth ebony board.

Does it really sound that much better than your LB series bass?

I taught about the enboy board but my LB has one and I always wanted a birdseye maple board.

I wouldnt say better than the LB but I sounds realy nice.

could be just cause it's a new bass, and i'm all exited.

Anyone have a Maple over Swamp Ash SB5000? Curious what the sonic differences are between that and straight Alder?

I have a Swamp Ash SB5000 with Flame Koa top. Cannot imagine more. Many who hear my bass are appreciative. Including me. The tone is crazy awesome! Highly recommended.

That is beautiful, when I ordered my SB4000 i was trying to decide between a koa topped mahogany with an ebony board, such as yours (minus the mahogany) and the gloss ash then I ended up going with.

So I really like that combo. It turned out really nice.

Beautiful! I can't wait, only a few weeks left to go until SB5000 day! It's gonna be good stuff! Just got my letter back from Vic Wooten's Bass and Nature camp. Looks like my shiny new Carvin is going to Tennessee with me in May.

IMO, no. In fact if it was necessary, I'd probably be willing to pay an upcharge to get the solid, non-chambered body!

I went chambered for the weight savings, which was worth the 70-80 bucks more it ends up being. You have to remember that the cost difference between the 5000 and 5001 also includes other options that I would have added to the 5000 like flamed maple top. I can't remember the number off the top of my head but I think 70-80 is pretty close. If I hadn't wanted those extra options I'm not sure it would have been worth it.

- To my knowledge (but I could be wrong here) that the tops on the SBs where only about a 3/16" thick.

- I always heard that tops don't really start to make an audible difference until they are about a 1/4" think.
