Tort and Black ... FTW!
I don't even like traditional bursts like that, but that is a sweet looking bass. I blame that on really liking the SB basses. I have never seen one that I didn't like.

I have to go with the tortoise and black knobs on yours. I like the top wood; smokey and warm; Nice looking bass.

Definitely tort/black IMHO.Here is maybe a better look at both the white and tortoise pick guards with the black knobs on.
To me, when you request a "plain" maple top, that's what you get. It just might be the "grainiest" plain maple top that they had. I think it looks good and my vote is for the tort guard.
I vote for the tort. i also think that's a very good looking maple top. Its kind of smokey and fuzzy. I like it more than those ridiculous flamed or quilted jobbies. It's very happenin' man.
I think the reason the top looks a little off at first is because it's a bit plain for maple, and also lacks the bit of grain you'd get with ash or alder. I think they eye just expects to see that alder/ash grain under that burst. But it looks like a really great burst to me, and I'm sure you're getting a bit more snap to the sound due to the maple. I think you'll totally come around to it

No, it's just the camera compressing the image heavily in the smoother gradients. Look at the edge in the lower left of the picture... you can see there's a gloss reflection there.
Plain maple is never going to have much grain to it, but I think your top looks great, Bassplayer63. And, another vote for the tort guard.
Vic, love that orangebust with no guard. I know people don't like the look of the control plate by itself "hanging out in space," but that top just should not be covered, IMO.

Sorry, man. Fed Ex is usually the one that messes up my deliveries. You'll forget once your new bass in your hands. And I bet your old bass will still sound great on Sunday!
