Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 7!

Wow...lots of new SBs. BTW, I received the replacement preamp yesterday. I may put it in today after work...maybe.
and the new SB5000...
...is delayed. I opened the box and one of my finish options was incorrect. I specified my headstock to match the body finish and it did not. And it's kind of a bummer because the rest of the bass is stunning. It plays and looks fantastic. Headstock color maybe a minor detail, but for the money I'm paying, I want it exactly how I want it!
I called Carvin and am probably going to end up sending it back to be fixed. So, hopefully that headstock refin will be rushed through and I'll get it back in 20 days? Crossing fingers.
Anyways, sorry guys, no bass porn until it's 100% correct!

Hey, I don't blame you for sending it back. But did you still give her a test drive? Likes/dislikes (besides the headstock)? Can we still have a little peek all the same? Awwwww, come on!!! 
Yea, play that new SB5000 enough to figure out that the ONLY issue with it is the headstock color. Maybe you'll dislike it for other reasons.
How long was your wait? My card from Carvin is saying my SB5000 will be completed 5/14. How accurate is that date?

My order date was 2/11/13, my postcard date was 4/8/13, my ship date was 4/10/13. I received it in Ohio on 4/16/13. My bass was pretty heavy on the options, however. rmars ^^ said in a previous post that his was a little more standard, and was completed early. So, as always, YMMV.
Yeah, I plugged in the bass, and, yeah, it sounds awesome. Just every time I look at the headstock it screams "off" to me. Sigh. Regardless, no peekie till completie!

Can they actually update the headstock with a cap that matches the body? Is it really that easy or will we be seeing this bass on the Carvin In-stock page?
I'm guessing they'll either build another neck to go on it or put it on the in-stock page and build another bass completely.
Ah yes, the beauty of the bolt-on design; you don't have to throw out the baby with the bath water. But still, if the bass plays well, it'd be a shame to replace a good neck. Would a thin cap on the headstock work? Seems to be the most practical fix but it sounds just too easy to be true. There's always a hitch! Or is it?

Yup. It has a TON of options, and even better, it's 8.6 pounds, which is a GREAT weight.
If Carvin decides just to replace the neck, I'm sure they wouldn't throw out a perfectly good neck just b/c the headstock wasn't what one customer ordered. It would easily fit on the next bass in line that had those options.
When I got my SB4000 a few years ago, it didn't really match what I thought I ordered. Carvin said I could send it back but it sounded and played so well that I just said "no, I'll keep it". Carvin had called me during the build b/c some of the options I had chosen didn't seem to match. I later figured out that the bass builder online doesn't always end up with what you thought you chose if you tab your way through it.
When I called last night, the guitar workshop was closed so they were going to discuss possible actions and call me back today. He suggested either they could build a new neck and ship it to me, or I could send the whole thing back and they would match it as well as possible. Whatever happens, I will stress to them that I want to keep the body/hardware, because it looks great. I would hate to roll the dice again and be less pleased with a new piece of wood.
And regarding the headstock cap, there already is one there, it's just not finished to match the body finish. Without giving spoilers as to my bass, imagine a blueburst quilted maple body with a natural wood quilted maple headstock cap. It just looks a little off. I asked about just replacing the cap, and last night he wasn't sure if that was a possibility.

Natural is fine for me. On mine, I had thought I had ordered a flame maple top (Honeyburst), no pickguard, birdseye board with matching birdseye headstock (I wanted it to look like the fb just continued). Well, when I got it, it was a flamed maple top (honeyburst) but with an ebony fb and a birdseye headstock and it had a white pickguard. Carvin sent me a tort guard and apologized for the mistakes. I could have sent it back but it just sounded too good. I don't even notice the different headstock and nobody has mentioned it to me when I bring it out to play or to gtg's. It just plays that nice. 
That sounds wrong..... I would think they would have double checked with you over something that strange. I wouldn't be happy with anything other than the bass I ordered so I don't blame you for not settling even if it was something more minute. I won't.......now where the heck is that UPS truck?......
