Neck standard, fretboard rosewood, 10" radius, drop-D tuner. Body is chambered.

Quick question... I'm selling a Fender J Standard 2011 & buying a SB4000 used

Good move? Stupid question on a Carvin thread? haha

What should I look for testing out this bass?

Thanks Basswave, my buyer ducked out but maybe it will sell still. I may want a SB4000 with a Volume & Blend vs a Volume Volume... that way I can set my tone with the blend & not adjust volume.

I really love the videos I've seen. Good stuff

Wow, was I FLOORED by some videos of the LB75A That may be a GREAT bass with a similar neck to my Bongo but a VERY different tone.

Anybody have a Bongo 5HH & a LB75 & compare the necks, sound?
I NEED a 5er but also would like a 4... I'm really liking the LB 75 right now. How drastic are the tonal differences from a Bongo?

Great way to end a long, challenging week. Wife called me around 3 to let me know the UPS man had dropped off my SB5000. While I originally chose all white to model after a Nathan East bass (white moto block inlays, etc), it is now more white like cocaine, since I am hooked after one time playing it. Neck has a great feel, and I like that satin paint on the back (I went all white). Action was perfect, nice and low thanks to the stainless steel regular frets, and the tone is incredible. While it will take some adjustment to get accustomed to playing around the pickup cover, aesthetically it looks nice. Aside from getting used to that, I would have to say this plays better than my Lakland 55-94, which was my go to bass until now. Looks just like I was expecting, great tone, and great playability. Everything I read on the forum was accurate. This bass does not disappoint. It has the capability to make me sound pretty dang good, if I can work up the chops to match the potential this instrument has to offer. We have a winner! :hyper:

Just wondering if any of you could provide feedback on your 4001/5001 SB Bass experiences in terms of tone.

That would be the Chambered Body.

There have been a 'few' threads...very few about the differences between the Chambered and the Solid versions.

I would like to hear if the Chambering made any difference in the Tone.

Sadowsky is Chambering his...and I'm really attracted to the Super Light bass idea.

I'm in the minority here, maybe even the lone ranger, but I felt like my chambered SB's lacked a little low mid punch/definition that is sort of the signature sound of the model. I definitely preferred the sound of the solid ones, but its something that you likely wouldn't notice if you didn't have a solid SB there to A/B it against.

I have a chambered SB4000 on order (all of my basses are chambered, though the others have f-holes). I'd like to think it will add a bit more smoothness to the tone but if it doesn't I'll be satisfied with the weight reduction.

I have a solid SB4000 and a chambered S5000 (not the 5001, as it's got a solid color, but I chose the chambered option). Maybe apples to oranges due to 4 versus 5 string, but I don't feel like the chambered 5000 is "super light" as I had hoped, and you'd like. It feels pretty close to what my 4000 feels like. I still think if reducing weight is your goal, that you won't notice an appreciable tone difference - and it's still worth chambering.

All of my bands stuff is recorded with the SB4000 with the chambered body. I feel my tone did not suffer.
