Carvin Vanquish Fretless Arrived!

I really like how that looks in natural ash (1 piece body, too!)- any pics of the back??

IMO, when they put the figured/colored tops on the Vanquish, the outline of the instrument looks a little disproportioned or something. I have a feeling the Charlie Reid Signature Fretless might be the next big thing coming out of Carvin! Would love to hear sound clips of this!

I'd bet that a ramp between the pickups would look great, and would probably be nice to have in terms of playability as well.

I like the clean, elegant look. With all the body contouring, it really doesn't need a fancy top...

Top is fancy! Swamp Ash is one of my favorite tonewoods both for looks and sound and that one piece body grain is like the ultimate in swamp ash heaven!

And the overall elegant look is like it cost twice as much. Cripes! It makes me GAS to go online and order one those Charlie Reid signature basses for myself!

At first I was a little put off by that body shape, but wow yours is beautiful!

Is it heavy? How well does it balance? Was it set up well from the factory? What is the tone/volume configuration?

Correction: it's actually a 14" radius not a 12" radius. Another cool feature Carvin has on this bass is radiused alnico humbuckers that match the radius of the neck for even frequency response.

As for controls, it's an active/passive circuit.

Master volume push/pull (active/passive)
Pickup Blend
Treble Boost/cut + Bass Boost/Cut (Stacked pot)
Mid Boost/cut + Frequency sweep 200-1000hz

I think the only thing I'd change would be the lined fretboard.

It's also VERY light compared to my other basses (I have a Fender P and a Gibson TBird that easily outweigh it by a few pounds). Feels pretty balanced as well. No neck dive. Set up from the factory was solid! Maybe a tiny bit of noise on the low B on the first 3 frets but in sure my guitar tech can smooth that out.

how stable has your neck been with the standard carvin graphite rods?

Very nice. The one-piece ash body was an excellent choice. I love the look of uninterrupted ash grain and for some reason the repeating grain patterns on the horns look really cool to me.

Never liked the look of these basses until I saw this natural one - the fancy tops AND colored bursts vibed me out on these. But on this natural one the contours of the body look FANTASTIC.
