Carvin's BX1500 and B2000

I pulled the trigger and just ordered the bx1500 for $499.00. Steve @ Carvin was nice enough to extend the $499 price as it expired yesterday. I also picked up the Road Warrior case.

Now to pick out some cabs....

Are there any sound clips/demos of the B2000 yet? I've been thinking about picking one up for about a year, but I've yet to hear it. Also been waiting for the kinks to get worked out, which they seem to have been by now.

My Band just did a recording with my b2000 through a fEARful 1515/66/1 cab last week.... so as soon as i get the final product i will post it...but i know that does not help much right now. I will say it is one hell of a clean head...i have ended up dropping a lil bit of my treble and high mids and giving a lil boost to my sub bass and bass. It mellows it out a lil bit but still very clean. Mind you though i am playing it through a fEARful cab which does not color the sound at all....so with a different cab it may not be quite as bright!! Also i am running the tube in the preamp with my boost at about noon adds just that lil bit of growl... which is very nice!!

My two main amps are a B1500 and an iAmp800. They both offer effective tone control and abundant power. I'd really like a lightweight head that can drive a pair of 4- or 8-Ohm cabs like the Thunderchild or Acme twelves at full volume.

As tempting as the BX1500 is, I'm concerned that it may not have enough power without bridging. What are your thoughts?

Oh I am sure that it has more then enough power!! Bridged 900 watts @8 ohms and 1500watts @ 4ohms. If 1500 watts dont cut it then you need a quieter band lol :p Now the only up side to the B2000 is it will power 2 4ohms cabs and give you 2050 watts wail doing it.:eek: It all depends what you want the bx1500 has alot of knobs so if thats your thing then you will be happy as for me i really liked the strait forwardness of the B2000 simple and powerful in a mono block!!

I thought about the BX1500 for a long time, based on the large number of people online who expressed a preference for it. I realized though it's mostly because of the abundance of features, which is the opposite of my preference. I think the B2000 is more up my alley, features wise (being 2 ohm stable is a biggie too). My Traynor YBA-1 has more knobs than I need :hiding:

Yeah is the reason u got it. Had a GK 1001rb II before I got the carvin. Loved the gk just wanted something with a lil more power and a bit lighter in the rack case to make the most of my fEARful cabs. The six band eq with just a drive and volume level makes it as simple as they come but yet still very flexible when it comes to getting the sound you like !

Generally speaking when you bridge power amps, the slew rate halves or at least slows down a lot (can't remember the exact details, and too lazy to google it right now. LOL). The bottom line is, it typically means transient response degrades, and it's dynamic performance could be perceived as not as good as a monoblock design.

Disclaimer - this info comes from back in the days when I was doing a lot more with traditional PA power amps, so I'm not sure how all the above translates to the newer designs and especially the Class D stuff. So FWIW, but I'm guessing that's where Jazzdogg's concern is coming from.

The bx1500 does 750w UNbridged at 4 ohms. Sounds like you might just need more cabs/drivers if that is not enough. Though if your current cabs can handle the power may be the power amp route is a better bet.
