Cheap Trick, Poison, Def Leppard Concert

Caught the show here in N.O. last night.

"Deep Thoughts . . ."

CT sound mix was horrible. Tom Petersson was barely audible. Robin Zander can still sing his a$$ off - nailed every note.

Poison - no comment, not a fan - bass inaudible

Def Leppard sounded much better than the others - I guess the headliner gets the best mix. Savage could be heard - but sound was overall very muddy - not clear. They were tight musically, but Elliot can't hit many of those notes anymore.

Overall a good show if they're passing your way.

I saw those two together in Louisville a few years back and the sound was very good- and Trick in smaller venues is even better...

But, Ive seen CT w/ Aerosmith and the sound was as you described... but imo Cheap Trick has always put on a good show either way!

How can it be considered a good show if the sound is as bad as you described? Considering you can probably get a decent effects pedal or a couple sets of really good strings for the cost of a ticket to this show, sounds to me like a good one to stay home and save your money. ? ?

I saw them in Charlotte.. just a couple weeks ago. I thought Cheap Trick did a great job.. But the mix was thin. Zander was amazing. Still hitting those notes.

Poison was good. The mix at our show was very good. hear Bobby jsut fine. My issue was , if you only get an hour on stage.. why would you put in a 10 minute guitar solo by C.C.? Who really wants to hear it?

Def Leppard really impressed me. The mix was great. I wasn't expecting a lot out of them.. but they gave a great show. My only issue.. SAMPLERS. If you can't sing it live as a band, then don't bulk it up so bad in the studio. I'd like to hear the actually backing vocals as they sound on stage with just 5 of them... well, 6 with the keyboardist that was offstage.

That's my $ .02

I never understood why Cheap Trick was lumped in with all those '80s hair bands... They were a '70s pop rock band that wrote some great music and had some decidedly un-glam members (Bun E Carlos?!?!)

I'd go see Cheap Trick. Poison? You'd have to pay me WELL to sit through that... Deef Leeperd? I'd go to see the one-armed drummer...!

Yeah but that song is kind of anomaly... it's so totally not Cheap Trick. It's the, "we're going to have a Top 10 hit if it kills us" song. And it worked, it was a hit.

BTW I like the song and I love the band. They are much better suited for bigger arenas or outdoor environments, though... I saw them 10 yrs ago or so in a little club here in town and they were just ungodly loud. It was like, festival stage volume in a 500 capacity room.

You couldn't pay me to see Poison, I've always wanted to see Cheap Trick live. I saw Def Lepard a couple of years back and the sound wasn't good at the show I saw either. Joe Elliot can definitely not hit the notes. He sang out of key a lot.

Thats funny... Ive seen em 5-6 times, and the best show of theirs I have seen was a small club show (w/ Mc5's Wayne Kramer as support!) and it was great! Yeah it was loud... but good and clear :D

I've seen Cheap Trick 3 times, and they were unbelievable the first two. One was the state fair, and the other was during the 2002 olympics. The energy and crowd interaction levels were amazing. They are probably the most fun shows I've ever been to. They were headlining at both.

The 3rd time they were opening for Aerosmith, and it was not nearly as fun. Their crowd interaction was almost non-existent, as opposed to the other shows. I'm assuming all their opening shows are along those lines. It's a sad day when they get lumped in with Poison and Def Leppard, especailly opening for them. :scowl:
