What a weekend I have.
2 clubdates on Saturday
2 clubdates on Sunday

Once upon a time, thats how the clubdate industry used to roll during the busy season. It wasn't uncommon to do 20-25 gigs in June, after a May that was just as busy. Which was good because after July 4th weekend, you starved until September.

What a blast. The kids came together nicely, and the parents rocked the house. There were about 10 of us in all, who joined the kids. "Finlandia" was a bit of a trainwreck, LOL. But the rest of the songs came out great.

What was really cool was that the school's musical director announced that she was retiring this year. I got to play her last show ever, I thought that was pretty cool. I sure appreciate what she's done for my daughter.

Yeah you are surely back at it 100% I only had that happen to me one time we played a private party upstairs in a place we were playing that night downstairs 2 hours up and 4 hours downstairs made for a very long night and not to mention most people stayed from the private party and just moved downstairs with us so, it had put a big smile on the face of the club owner.RTS

Had a pretty cool gig last night. Went in early in the afternoon to set up the place since I was organizing the gig for three bands that night. Got the backline and mics and stuff in place, then went to take a shower then came back to open up the place for the bands.

The gig went on surprisingly well, especially considering that my band had a session drummer sitting in for this gig since our regular one couldn't make it. Listening back to my recordings, there's little mistakes here and there but I guess it was pretty good overall.

What I'm most happy about is my Shuttle 3.0- this is the first time I'm using it live, and I ran it into a pair of 8ohm subs in parallel. The sound was awesome, and good lord, anything above 12:00gain and 9:00volume was wayyyy overpowering. I love this little box even more now.
Edit- well, the venue wasn't very large, can hold up to maybe just over 200 people? But I guess this amp could probably take an even large space easily since at this volume it's already so effective.

Played quite possibly the coolest gig I've ever had last night....
It was a weekly street dance thing in Huntington WV right downtown on the main drag. I've been to this place before but never for a show. It was PACKED! I've never played for this many people before and it was a little un-nerving at first. Probably 2,500 or more there, not counting all the people driving by all night. I really wish I had taken my camera with me and got a crowd shot. I'm still stunned at how many were there. This one will defineatly be with me for a while...

Okay we played last night in a place called the SunSet grill in Lincoln park,nj I have to tell you every time we play there the place is pack never a place to park in the lot after unloading ever! I had to park way down the street and walk all the way back to the place every time we have played here. Okay the set up is like this we are in the main restaurant area where customers walk into the place. So people are walking past you all night. No stage, they have like a fire place that you set up the drummer in and everyone else is hugging the wall.So you really have to pay attention to the people walking past that you do not clock them with your guitar neck! But all that aside packed house, crowd loves us and we are always asked back. Early start, early finish two sets and out! It is a 20 minute ride from my house but I am in bed by 1:00AM do the math lol. I have another one tonight I will check in Sunday if I get the chance RTS

Okay sorry couldn't hit back on Sunday. Funny thing happen before the gig I got roped into calling a club for our booking agent since he was not going to be available to make the call. So I call and ask for this woman and she gets on the phone before I even tell her who I am she screams I'm not talking to you! you called me a moron! and hangs up! I am like wt fudge was that all about? So I call our agent and ask him if he called this woman a moron? and he says no he has not talked to her since the last scheduling last month.Crazy so I call back and a guy answers the phone and tells me she doesn't want to speak to me! And I tell him you have me mistaken for someone else I am RT Slinger with the Phoenixband tell her that. And she gets on the phone laughing and I'm So Sorry Rob I thought you were this guy that keeps calling because I would not honor a old coupon he had! We had a good laugh and that was that. The show went well played to a packed house as always.Nearly home and I get a call from my Singer and he is telling me that he was walking across his lawn to his condo and the freaking sprinkler system went on! He was soaked to the bone by the time he made it to the door I would have loved to see him scurrying across the lawn like a rodent at 2AM lol!

going on my first tour with Days of the New. loading tomorrow; leaving the next day; playing the day after that. and then we keep playing.

if any of you are die hard fans and happen to come to the show, have mercy on me if i take small liberties with some bass lines. some of these arrangements are ridiculously complex and i've had like a little over a week to learn the parts on upright and electric. :o

but seriously, it should be a lot of fun. lots of hard work and exhausting. one hell of an internship for a music student. :P

any advice for going out on the road?

it'll be AR (fayetteville) , OK, TX, then a short break to rehearse some other players/material and we'll do FL, NC and SC.

I'll have to see about coming to see you guys then. Been a bit since I've seen anyone play live... Well since Rivers and Spires here in Clarksville a few months ago anyways.

my only night life is going to be getting back to the hotel and practicing. this is a huge deal and these arrangements are rough. bits of odd-meter thrown in, rapid tempo changes. the first few shows are going to be hell on me. i fear the wrath of the band. :help:

just going to do the best i can.

Got a gig tonight at the Baltic Pub here in Point Richmond. There's been a lot of local buzz and I think we're going to have a decent crowd. It's our first gig after taking a couple of months off while our keyboard player was really ill. The time off really broke our momentum, so I'm hoping this gig will fix that. I'll report in here (and hopefully the Chicks at Shows thread, too) tomorrow.
