The band I work for had a show in Sacramento, CA. I met up with them after getting off of my other job and worked the merch booth. For their booth, they have the typical CDs (11 different ones) Shirts, Beanies, stickers, guitar pics, etc.

What we also have are 'Boy shorts' for the ladies. Band name and a portion of the album art on them somewhere.

One girl at the Sacramento show wanted a pair. handed over the cash and then proceded to drop her pants, and put them on right then and there.

Prior to this moment she had been going 'commando'

Couple weeks ago at the Roxy in Hollywood, Shawn Wayan's daughter opened up for us.

She's like 7. her and some other kids hammered out some covers while their parents watched with big smiles and cameras rolling, nudging each other. I believe Startrek's Robert Picardo was there too with his son. Extremely surreal evening, nice kids... just ... strange evening.

I haven't been posting shows because almost all of mine of late have been with a band I don't play bass in (mandolin and guitar). Last night however, the keyboard-based rock trio I'm in played here:

I played the same bass pictured, my '79 T-40. For the first time ever I played the entire set fingerstyle, with the exception of the last song, which really calls for a pick. Set went OK without being overly fab. Absolutely NO ONE there though. I mean nobody. Drummer's dad and the other band, that's it.

Oh well, at least we got a 3-camera DVD out of it. That should be interesting to see.

Haven't gotten around to listing my last few gigs, but I do have one tonight with the country band. Outdoors (I can bring a big rig!) at North Forks Resort, a campground out by Front Royal VA, about 90 minutes from home. We've played this one before, lots of folks in lawn chairs & lots of kids running around. They shoot off fireworks at some point. Should be fun.

Played my town's version of Memorial Day show last night. About an hour on Main Street with around 800 or so there. Lively crowd. Had trouble getting my sound like I wanted it. Out front it sounded fine (I send the signal from my sansamp directly to the board, but have an amp on stage for stage volume) so I spent a bit twiddling with knobs on stage. Overall a good evening.

Or maybe that's only on the 4th of July. But otherwise, yeah, pretty much as predicted. They built a real stage since last time we were there, wood roof and everything!
Our singer got all the little girls onstage to sing "For the Girls" and "White Liar", and one girl kept accidently stepping on my BP50 and switching different effects on. It was an interesting random element, until she put her foot down and left it there, causing the BP50 to scroll endlessly. That doesn't sound so good... :p

"For The Girls" was such a big hit that another girl got up and sang it solo a while later.

Next gig: the country band at the Boonsboro MD Carnival, Friday 6/4. It's carnival season! :hyper: Corn dogs!!

Tonight I'm going to an open jam session at a bar, it's a part of their open mic night for poetry and stuff, my friends have a band that they ask to come jam between readings. Not very many people usually come, but it's always a good time. I'm excited because it's the first time since I've been really focusing on practising that I'm going to be jamming with these guys, so I get to see how I've progressed and what I can work on.

We have a gig in a place that stop having bands a while ago! We cut our teeth in this place on June 3rd 2006 and now they are having us back this Sat June 5th 4 years and 2 days. We are looking forwarded to playing there, it was a great place with really good food.
I am hoping to come back Monday with nothing but good things to say about this one.Same people own it and he is a really good guy. let you know how it goes RTS

The guitar player and I joined up with a new drummer to kick off Cooch's Big Wave Jam tomorrow. We go on at noon. As of yesterday, over 400 tickets had been sold. Should be a blast. http://localsearch.courierpostonline.com/sp?skin=100&aff=1002&eventId=76611
We played with the new drummer for the first time last night. Out of all the songs we ran through, we only had to play two of them more than once. Just really locked in with him. Our current drummer better shape up.

We've played this carnival every year for the past few. The rain was minimal and didn't interfere with the show. Lot of band members' relatives came out this time. A couple of teenage girls sang to recorded backup to open for us.

Came time to sing my new song, which I still use a sheet for, and I realised I'd left my glasses in the car. Drat! Turns out I know most of it, so we avoided a train wreck. Time to print it out w/ key words in a bigger font ha ha!

Best of all, I played my solo in "Brown Eyed Girl" correctly! :bassist:

Next gig: Marsh Bros at a midday charity event @ Geico HQ, Chevy Chase on the DC line, 6/15. No pay, but plenty of exposure :atoz: people die from exposure!!!

Maybe the guy in the gecko suit will be there... he's much bigger in person...

Cooch's Big Wave Jam went great. 5 bands, and I heard $30,000 was raised for the cause.
Nobody could believe we had played with the drummer only once before, at practice two days earlier.
The venue is interested in having us back. Hope to hear from them soon.

Okay we had a gig Sat night place we have not played in since 2006. Got to the club on time for set up and sound check with time to spare. The room was a lot bigger then the last time we played, so we had a lot of stage area which was nice. I liked the acoustics of the room when we played in it before and was not disappointed during the sound check the Bose PA and subs really sounded great, best I have heard them if that is possible? Because they always sound amazing. Anyway first set was great but, I was noticing the heat from the light show a lot more than I have in the past? I found out why when we finished the set the AC in the place had crapped out and they were trying to get it up and running again. But after the second set was done so were most of the people and us when the temp in the building was read at 94 degrees. We called off the rest of the show because our fans had more then enough of the heat. The club paid us full price and bought us all a round of drinks. We packed up and after a 45 minute ride I was home and in bed by 1AM. Two shows one on Fri and one on Sat both returns for us so I will report back on Monday RTS

Chester rocked the Cubby Bear in Wrigleyville, Chicago on Friday night to a 200+ crowd (not our biggest, but for an up-and-coming local original band, not bad). It was refreshing and a hell of alot of fun to play on a stage that size, with that kind of sound and crowd energy. I also got to test out my new G30 on a full-size stage, and shocked the hell out of the guitarist when I ran up to him.

My band (3 piece, classic + alternative rock covers) played a local outdoor block party on the weekend. It was crazy hot and humid this weekend in NY area, so by the 3rd song we were soaked, sweat dripping down my arms and fingers, making things a bit more challenging. Not used to fighting mosquitos when we play either. We're a bit new at this, first set was only okay, interrupted when my guitar player blew a string, and instead of switching to backup guitar insisted on changing it. But the second set and encores went really well, it cooled off a little bit by then. We probably played over 35 songs by the time the last stragglers went home.

First gig with my new band tomorrow night..... with a keyboardist that just joined us a month back and a drummer that joined us temporarily for a practice on Sunday and for this gig since our usual drummer can't make it. We actually sounded better with this session drummer =O says something about our usual drummer. Pity we can't poach this session guy to join us permanently.

Shall check in after the gig!

Spring Concert with the 4&5 grade Land of Pines school band. We're 50 strong and this is my 1st large ensemble and sight reading experience ever. I had to learn to read for this gig, anything for my little girl. Musical Selections include; Fiddler on the Roof, Star Wars Theme, the Chicken Dance, Rondeau, & What a Wonderful World. Dress rehearsal last night was a hoot, wish all of us parents luck :bassist::)
